Someone out there who knows please help! Duke or Georgia Tech

@collegemom3717 - looking back on the OP’s other threads, it appears that the OP was talking about a possible auto-admit to UGA’s Honors program (about 10-15% of students admitted EA are offered entrance to the Honors program) but unless the OP is a val or sal, they are not an auto admit to either UGA or Ga Tech.

At one point, the OP mentioned applying to Duke ED. Unless it is your CLEAR FIRST CHOICE, do not do that. Did you happen to visit both East and West campus?

I don’t think you will see a noticeable bump from Duke vs GT. Both are very respected, and lead to excellent opportunities.

fwiw, my spouse graduated from UGA and after working for a few years was accepted to 3 of the top MBA programs. I’m sure Tech (and Duke) grads have the same opportunities.

MBA’s are expensive.

Doing well at Georgia Tech will get you in to any MBA program that Duke would.

Save the money.

If she is instate the admit rate for Tech is ~40%.

Top 10 b-schools are naturally very competitive. As aforementioned, at least a couple of years of work experience is required, and a successful couple of years, to boot (at least one promotion). My attends one, and he attended our state flagship and graduated with only a 3.5. But he studied for 6 months (constantly) for the GMAT and rocked it, and rose steadily in position at work. He applied to 8 schools and was accepted at all 8 (I mean he really rocked his GMAT). Tuition is expensive (at his school, $72k) and there are a TON of other costs (these schools heavily emphasize networking and have many events to network with students from OTHER top 10 bschools). He travels around the world extensively for these events. He is in Germany right now with 200 of his classmates. Point being save your money. If top 10 bschool is goal, prestige of school matters only in its ability to help you get a job after college. GPA matters far less than GMAT and your professional success right after college. It is a lengthy application process (really takes 2 years); the interview process alone took almost a year.

Thank you all so much for your valuable feedback! I really appreciate everything!!

I’m guessing from our discussions then that the prestige of the school also doesn’t matter for medical or dental school am I right?

^^prestige of undergraduate school

For med school it’s all about GPA, MCAT and the ‘15 experiences’. Prestige of undergrad is not a meaningful variable. If you are thinking that Duke is materially more prestigious than GT know that to most of the world it is not* - and definitely not for engineering.

*Duke fans, please don’t feel the need to come school me in how wondrous it is and how many doors it opens- I know all that & I am not dissing your school.

thank you!!!
