Son Applied CMU- CFA

Well, we took the plunge and S applied to CFA. I have no idea what his chances are and we will see what happens. He started late in the game as far as art/design is concerned. Attended PreC this summer and went to Diversity/Sleeping Bag weekend and presented his portfolio. He is excited about it. We decided we could swing costs provided husband and I have a job. Thank you for all the feedback from CC'ers.

Good luck.
Art is tough. We used to see DS mentally churn out a design.

Within cmu, getting into cfa is easier in terms of raw stats. As long as he got across that he is uber excited about the school and the learning field, i’m sure he’ll get in. The fact that he went to pre-college and sleeping bag weekend helps a lot with admissions as well.
Good luck with the wait!!

This is coming from an architecture student…If you’re son gets in, realize that cfa students dont ever sleep (Design, Architecture, Music, etc) Horray!

Thank you all for wishing him good luck! We may need to ask for help again!

CFA has 2 of the 3 hardest undergrad programs to get into at CMU, according to the CMU undergrad stats sheet:

The 4 hardest programs to get into are:
CFA School of Drama 6.0% (84/1407)
School of Computer Science 11.1% (389/3490)
CFA School of Design 13.5% (84/622)
Tepper School of Business 13.8% (435/3162)

In CFA, the “easiest” programs to get into are School of Architecture at 36.0%, School of Music at 24.4%, and School of Art at 18.8%.

I got accepted in to ED 1 CFA school of drama and honestly they really do focus mainly on the work. I have average Sat scores and a 3.4 GPA idk what it is weighted . But Ive been envolbed in theater for a while , go to an arts school, and have many extra curriculars and community service hours . My essays were pretty good and my interview/audition went great! If youre worried about grades try not to ( easier said than done -personal experience ) but try and focus on make the portfolio and body of work as good as possible and make sure they know youre extremely passionate about it. Also if CMU is your number one make sure to make that known !!! Best of luck!

Congratulations Alexgrace, you must be very hardworking and talented to have gotten into CFA - Drama! I noticed in one other post that you are from Texas and so are we (Central Texas)! Wish you the best at CMU!
