My D has been accepted to the CFA but is now feeling like she would like the opportunity to study more than just art (wants to take English Lit and psychology and see where it leads). She has also been accepted to Middlebury, Bowdoin, Carleton etc...all top LAC's where she could do everything so I think she might not consider CMU now unless she can cross study. Is it ever possible to apply to the BXA or HSS once you are there? Should she call somebody about it?

Always call and talk with a cousellor at the university, they know best. Grain of salt warning though, after being accepted the school WANTS your daughter to attend, don’t think they will ever say oh, well if that’s the case XXX school is a better choice, more than likely they will think hard and figure they could make it work. So ask for the facts and figures ( how many dual major possibilitie,s how is it accomplished and how do students manage)

But in a holistic sense, a strictly LA college will be a better fit for somone unsure where thier education may lead…

Thanks for the insight ivygeek. Out of the LAC’s, she is leaning towards Carleton and feels like she fits most there. I also think she would be happy there but hate to see an opportunity like CMU get passed up without knowing all there is to know about it. She did call and was told that there is a possibility to cross study or get a minor in another subject in addition to her BFA. I think we need to visit.

What’s her major in CFA? The BXA program is very popular (two of my close friends are in it, one Dramaturg and one Design major) and both have enjoyed it a lot. I was considering it myself at one point, and the advisor is a helpful guy.

Humanities courses are open to any student in any college. H&SS is the least restrictive college at CMU, so it’s very easy for students of any major to cross over.

Hi CompletelyKate!
