Son just returned from Summer Seminar

He had an incredible time! Came home yesterday and today downloaded all of the Nomination applications, transcript request forms and completed his ROTC applications. Personal statements written…he’s ready!

He received paperwork last week from DoDMERB. and will be completing the exam in about 10 days. Has anyone else received DoDMERB? Was wondering if it’s from this Summer Application/Intial USAFA application or from an interview he did for Army ROTC in April. (He interviewed with LtCol prior to starting the online application, but Col put the interview into the system)

Just trying to figure out where the DoDMERB request came from.

My other son went through this process a few years ago, but I can’t remember when they start all the paperwork.

My son received his last week as well. He was at the Naval Academy Summer Seminar at the time, and leaves for the AF one tomorrow morning. Not sure if all candidates receive it at this time, or only those involved in the summer seminars. I’m sure they must have some kind of application on file in order to initiate the process. Sounds like from reading these boards that this is about the time they start going out to schedule the Dodmerb.

My summer seems to be flying by and it’s only mid June! Son leaves for LeadAmerica: Aviation conference tomorrow morning and then is home for 24 hrs before he heads to China for 6 weeks. He was able to schedule the DoDMERB for the one day in between trips. The whirlwind has started!

Good luck to him! Our son did the three seminars - NASS, then a day off, West Point, then two days, then off to Air Force. But then things die down, thank goodness! He was able to schedule all his Dodmerb the week after he gets back from AF.

Congrats on his acceptance to all three! That’s fantastic!
The day after he gets back from China, 2-a-days Football starts…so no time for a physical. Trying to figure when he can take his ROTC CFAs to get them out of the way. Son was completely thrilled with USAFA. He went with no expectations and not committed to applying. He returned with USAFA as his number one choice. He was very excited that he was in an environment where everyone wanted to learn! How refreshing. He also stated that he wants to go to college with kids that are physically fit and smart and honest. He was just overwhelmed by the overall atmosphere. The doolie (sp?) stories did not bother him one bit.

Good to see you back singaporemom! Good luck on doing it all over again. I’m sure the older brother is enjoying his choice now. :)

Hi there!!! I read about the cigar and hookah smoking in the tobacco thread…tsk tsk! :)

My oldest is loving Army ROTC at Indiana. He’s majoring in Chinese and Telecommunications and minoring in Russian. He’s there this summer finishing his Russian minor.

My youngest is hoping to study Chinese and Math, but he really liked the engineering lessons he had at USAFA last week. He was amazed at the amount of content a teacher can get across when they are enthusiastic. We’ll see what happens. His element won best element and he thought that was great!

We would love to get a fitness test done before he leaves for China, since he did really well at the summer test but it’ll have to wait. When he returns to football, a few weeks of that and he’ll be back up to snuff.

Are you going into your senior year??

Get those Academy apps done now while he’s still excited… it gets pretty tedious later on.

I can’t wait for OUR “Summer Seminar”

singaporemom- yes, I am a firstie now with the ring and all! How time flies!

Some cigars and hookah doesn’t hurt too much! Gotta love a special event and sitting out with a bunch of friend with a cigar. Though its usually REALLY cold. lol

not to say USAFA isn’t the place for someone, but makes sure they still see other schools. often times being somewhere makes you want to go there, so make sure you have something to compare it to. i loved USAFA when i visited, but then i also loved Wash U (in St. Lou) when i visited. ultimately i came to USAFA and love it, but make sure you can compare one experience to another.

if its still your top choice, then good luck and never let that goal fade away

My son just visited Wash U 2 weeks ago…loved it also. In April he visited his brother at Indiana Unive and experienced the Army ROTC PT. He’s going to an aviation conference at a Georgia military school this week and then visiting UCLA next week on his way to China. Hopefully with that many choices, he’ll experience alot.

well then great for him! although i do wonder what it’d be like to be a Bear at wash U… lol. i’d still be playing football there! although commutting to Univ. of St. Louis for ROTC would have been a hastle…

eagle36- congrats to you for choosing USAFA. My other son went through the ROTC vs Academy debate, and I now see the difference in his hesitation to the Academy and my younger son’s lack of hesitation. Quite remarkable.

I now truely think if the kid really can’t make that decision, then the Academy isn’t for them.

Singapore Mom- Is your son at Indiana U. doing the Slavic Immersion for the summer? I was curious how it is. My daughter was accepted and planning to go, but she got an AFA scholarship to go to the Ukraine (all expenses paid!)- 4 weeks- so she couldn’t pass that up. So her 60 day paid leave turned into 90 days paid leave…Very cool.

I had been reading about the Slavic institute at IU and it looks very interesting. You can read the agenda, list of speakers they bring in, special food nights, and cultural movies. It said that they were getting a lot of ROTC people for the summer that perhaps couldn’t get the Russian in their home college.

Yes. Son is at IU with ROTC SLCP…at IU they call it SWEESL or something like that. He did it last year for Russian 1…took Rusian 2 during the school year and is now back for Russian 3. He was offered a chance to go to Russia for the summer but turned it down.
:frowning: We have moved soooo many times, I think he wanted to be in one place for awhile.

He likes the program alot!

@ horneyguy

Were you a flight commander or element leader during summer seminar?

well, that’s an awkward way to be addressed…

I was neither, I did not work summer seminar.

Haha sorry. That’s how I address people on other forms.

I am pretty sure that is not the first time you have been addressed that way on here, but it is still just as funny :)
