My son is currently a sophomore at Rowan University with a Major in Writing Arts. He is and has always been interested in photography - over the past 3 years his level of interest has increased as has his experience. He is looking to transfer (possibly Montclair) to a school that has programs where he can explore his love of photography and writing and hopefully, turn this into a career of some sort.

He will be going for a semester abroad for the Spring 2010 semester; therefore, looks like we need to move quickly.

Do you have any suggestions as to what he needs to do? His GPA for the freshman year was 3.5.

I’m glad that your son is interested in transferring to Montclair State University! To apply as a Transfer Student, your son will need to fill out the Online Application and submit Official Transcripts from any college or university he has previously attended, the Application Fee, and Personal Statement. On average, Transfer Students have earned a solid “B” average in an academically rigorous curriculum.

Montclair State offers programs in both areas that your son is interested in. If he is primarily interested in Photography, he can major in Studio Art with a concentration in Photography. This can be either a BA or BFA program. He will undergo a Portfolio Review with the College of the Arts along with being accepted academically. Since he will be studying abroad this Spring, I assume he is interested in attending Montclair State for the Fall 2010 semester. To find out how to best proceed with a portfolio review if he is abroad, please contact the College of the Arts.

If he is mainly interested in writing, he can major in English with a concentration in Creative Writing, and even minor in Journalism. For a full description of all courses involved in these different academic areas, just visit our Course Catalog at [Montclair State University](http://www.montclair.edu).

Hi, I have a similar question I am currently a sophomore at Rowan Unviersity and I am interested in transfering to Montclair State University for the fall 2010. I am a Law and justice major and I was wondering how I would find out if all my credits would transfer over to montclair with me. I assumed it wouldn;t be a problem because they are both New Jersey State Universities. Also, If I did a summer internship would those credits transfer as well?

The University is liberal with the credits that can be transferred from another college, however a credit analysis will not be done until after a student has applied and been accepted to Montclair State University. The official transcript from Rowan needs to be submitted in order for a student to be considered for admission.

How long does it usually take before you hear whether you are admitted or not? My son has had his portfolio review and was accepted; however, he sent all the other paperwork in before Christmas and hasn’t heard anything yet. He’s on his semester abroad now and is just anxious to hear.
