Son uncomfortable with kids on his floor using marijuana

My kid couldn’t even light a candle in her dorm room. Where’s the RA?

Just ask for a room change.

I wish they would just legalize it. Almost every “medical” marijuana user I know (including, formerly, myself) uses something other than smoke-able weed.

I’m asthmatic so smoking was never part of the picture for me. I have severe problems around cigarette smoke but marijuana smoke is nothing more than annoying.

Again though, I think it’s rude to smoke in the hall but I still stick by what I said earlier.

@maya54, I can assure you that smoke/smells from smoking does cause some asthmatics to have respiratory distress from being exposed. I have read stories where some components of marijuana might help but I don’t think smoking would be the desired delivery method.

@redpoodle, My daughter has been registered with disabilities for asthma. She has worked with housing to get accommodations. All dorms have a contract that specifies no smoking of any type. The campus is totally non-smoking expect for a few limited areas. However, she was placed in a regular dorm which was better for her asthma then the substance free dorm. Fortunately she only had this issue once caused by student not obeying the rules. Fortunately it only took a few days to recover. Lucky, she had no exams during that period.

My point is that if the housing contract says no smoking inside the dorms then either follow the rules or move off campus. In the real world violating the terms of your lease will get you evicted.

Are they smoking inside the building? If not…no, he shouldn’t. It’s none of his business as long as they are not directly bothering him. My dorm building smells like damp cardboard. If I complained to the university about it…they aren’t going to do anything.

Nobody is going to raid the whole floor. And since when is theft associated with marijuana use???

My two students at two different colleges report that MJH is rampant, more than alcohol which suprised me as one is in a large Greek community. My freshman says kids light up on a daily basis and even in the mornings before classes. They both suggest that it is the drug of choice these days, again very surprising to me.

Honestly, I have a lot of friends who smoke it, and I’d rather be around weed fumes than cigarette fumes. However, if he has an issue with it, he has the right to report it.

I would suggest to move to a substance free dorm room.
