Songs that impact you when you hear them

Very relevant in these prescient times with powerful lyrics that never fail to move me every time I listen to this song.

And still my hype up song before gym sessions and soccer games…30 years on.

Sigur Ros “Ara Batur.” If you’ve never heard Sigur Ros before, you’re welcome.

Portishead “Roads.” I guess I’m a sucker for some strings with my post rock/shoe gaze.

Bjork “Hyperballad.” Oh my god, it is a theme. The music and lyrics are, like, on another level.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds “As I Sat Sadly By Her Side.” Everyone likes his other songs, but this is the one that gets me, as I sat sadly by her side.

James “Tomorrow.” Love the lyrics and so dancey!

Depeche Mode “Never Let Me Down Again.” Never gets old.

Love me some Bjork. Listening to her right now. I also love Portishead and Depeche Mode. I suspect we frequented the same night clubs back in the day, haha. Thanks!

Little Feat’s “Dixie Chicken”, not just because it was a great song that told a story, but because it reminds me of my high school and college lifeguarding days when guards would be late for their rotations because they would not leave the staff room until the song ended.

How can you not move your feet when you hear this song?

Listened for the first time. Not my typical musical taste and I am not a dancer by any means.

Had me moving my feet and grinning ear to ear. That may be my new wake up song!!

Thank you!!!

My daughter is in the red plaid shirt in this music video, so of course I get a smile when I hear this song on the radio. Niko Moon is known for writing only HAPPY songs. In a restaurant near the Vanderbilt University campus, Niko’s wife Anna asked my daughter and her Vandy friends to be in Niko Moon’s first video. 54 million views! Whoa. My D said they were all so nice and fed them and kept asking if they were enjoying themselves and to just relax, dance, and be themselves.
I guess another fun thing about living in Nashville.

Here’s another ode to dancing!

Boyz II Men:

On Bended Knee
End of The Road
I’ll Make Love to You
A Song for Mama
One Sweet Day

All of these get me. Just love the vocalizations and harmonies.

Too many songs to mention them all.

Funky town — Lipps
First ever dance with a boy on the dance floor. Brings back memories of a fun time, accompanying an older friend who was meeting a boyfriend under the radar. While she danced a few dances with him, the rest of us wallflowers stayed out of the action until a random group of similarly lost boys asked us to dance. One dance. This song.

Wake Me Up — Wham!
Fernando — ABBA
Top of the World — Carpenters
Oh, to be a teenager again!

Every time We Touch — Cascada. This was part of my workout routine for many years and it can still get me moving.

Wonderful Tonight — Eric Clapton
This is our song. Don’t know if it actually was our first dance but it’s the song we both remember from our first date. DH can still be moved to hum some lines when I’m dressing up for an occasion even though the hair isn’t long anymore and was never blond.

Songs that just stop me in my tracks when they come on.
I can see Clearly now — Johnny Nash

Don’t Dream it’s Over — Crowded House

Baba O’riley — the Who

Hallelujah
Cat’s in the Cradle

I have very diverse taste. Right now, I love MacArthur Park and Miserere Mei Deus by Allegri. I get goosebumps whenever I hear either.

Of course, that’s soda in her cup😉

My favorite Portishead tune:

Reminds me of my very first “industry” job at a tiny startup in a building shared by a few such tiny companies. The guys across the hallway used to play this over and over. Never got old!

If you want another dance-your-butt-off tune… this will shake anyone out of their bed!

Amazing Ukrainian talent! BTW, the song title “Lasha Tumbai” means zip in any language. It does sound a bit like “Russia, Goodbye.” And that was the hidden message back then, apparently.
