Sonoma State Parties?

I am planning on attending sonoma state this fall as a biology major. I definitely do like to party and i have all throughout high school but i heard sonoma state doesn’t really have many. Is that true? I’m also planning on rushing so I hope being in a sorority will help. Any comments would be helpful!

I grew up in the area but, am now the parent of a college student. (he attends another school but closely considered SSU.) We have several family friends who have, or currently attend so, I do speak to SSU students occasionally.

At around 9000 students, it is one of the smaller CSUs. A pretty good share of them live with their family, in Petaluma, Santa Rosa or the surrounding area. That spreads students pretty thinly as you leave campus so, it has never been known as a ‘party school’.

That said, any place with a concentration of 18-13 year olds will have parties. You certainly won’t have trouble finding pot and people to smoke it with you (if that is your thing). As silly as it sounds, alcohol is a little less accessible. Lots of students live in the dorms but, they (at least the Freshman dorms) are dry and I believe the campus is officially smoke free. The dorm layout would make it though to have a real rager without attracting the attention of SSUs finest. As a parent, I probably don’t get the straight scoop on harder drugs at SSU so. I won’t comment on that.

Some students live in the surrounding community (Rhonert Park/Cotati) but, not in the concentrations you’ll find at other, larger schools. Of course house parties happen but, they are in residential, family filled neighborhoods and frequently include SRJC students. Loud music and a kegger spilling into the street late at night will get the police called. There are fraternities and sororities which are probably your best ticket to an active social life. Other campus clubs will give you a campus-centric social life too.

It is a really pretty campus, nice dorms, and their bio program is excellent.

I hope you find what you are looking for.

Thank you so much, that was really helpful
