These would be my choices (Very likely). What would you do if you were in my shoes? I counted scholarships that I have received thus far.

Accepted:
Univ of Michigan: expense 15k (Already got 6k), 15 mins from home.
Michigan state: expense 0k (likely full ride), 1 hr from home.

Good chance of being accepted:
Northwestern: expense ~ 50k. Far from home
WUSTL: expense ~ 50k. Far from home
Johns Hopkins ~ 50k. 4 hr drive from home.

Haha yeah you do realize that JHU is in Baltimore, and UM is in, well, Michigan.

Anyways, UM seems like the clear "bang for your bucl" winner here, but don't go there if you don't think its a good fit. Also, you might get some good FA for those privates, so that could be a factor.

I'm going to be the odd one out here and say Michigan State. Nothing beats a full ride, and being an hour away from home is typically preferrable to being 15 minutes away.

Aside from that, MSU has solid academics. Maybe not quite as prestigious as UM, but still solid. And besides, no one cares where you go for undergrad -where you go to graduate school matters so much more.

I think the OP meant that Northwestern was 4hrs away, and John's Hopkins was far from home. Probably a simple typo.

But anyways, I would go with Michigan State. 15min is way too close to home. And the other private school don't have the sports and social scene that MSU has. And MSU is free.

Agreed! Michigan State is one of those "most underrated" schools in the country. Go there, have fun, study hard and get the grades, then worry about Med School at a prestigious location. The privates you mentioned are all great schools, but they are very expensive and you are going to need to save your money (student loans) for med school and maybe post doctoral studies.

Not picky, just trying to help. What if you picked Hopkins thinking it was only 4 hours away? Be thankful people care enough to clarify things.

First of all, forget about Northwestern, Hopkins, and WashU. The debt isn't worth it. If you can get some financial aid, that's another story.

Let me be yet another person to commit collegeconfidential blasphemy by saying Michigan State isn't a bad option (even though USNews ranks it lower than U of M.). I live in Michigan. I have a cousin who taught at Michigan and just transferred to Michigan State. He's amazed at how much more friendly MSU is, and how much more people care about undergrads there. U of M is a grad school factory. My cousin (who got a master's and PhD there, and was on the faculty for a while) said that a disturbing % of the faculty was there just to get the U of M name on their resume and then transfer to a splashier private college. The last president dumped U of M for the presidency at Columbia...that sort of cynical use of U of M as a stepping stone rather than an end in itself is apparently an all-too-common phenomenon there.
