Dr. Wang and Dr. Resnik. And no, I do not plan to attend.

OMG i got rejected from Sophie. I dunno why. I guess I have pretty good academics stats:

SAT: 2180 (790M, 660V, 730W)
GPA: uhhhh 96ish -- rank 18 prior to 12th grade, rank 9 as of mid-yr
Interviews- in my opinion went pretty well
Essays: They were pretty good to me

So why didnt i get in? They accept 70 people but I think im pretty well qualified. WHY????

i still haven't even received my freakin letter.....ahhhhhhh...its killing me, i'm not exactly sure if i got in or not, hopefully i'm accepted...

karnage: who interviewed you? and when did you get ur letter?

i got in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and im def going

My school had 5 kids get in! I thought that was crazy. How many kids got in at your schools?

what school are you from?
that is weird, i can't imagine spending 5 years with that many ppl i know from hs in a program this size, unless they're ppl i can tolerate.

I go to Elmont Memorial...the other kids are pretty cool though.

i had three people get in my school.... including myself

jabez - did u contact the school and inform them that you will not go because it can help some one else get in ......

i go to hicksville high school and im the only person who applied this year or any of the previous years that i noe of atleast. i don't think i'll noe anyone there.

Congrats everyone!

Is anybody looking to get housing close to CCNY instead of dorming? Well I'm looking for a roommate and it is significantly cheaper than the towers.

I heard that if you receive a C in a science class they automatically place you on probation, and if you get two C's they kick you out....does anyone know if this is true?

First off, CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who got in!!!

To those who didn't get accepted, you probably already know this, but it's not the end of the world. :)

MzJackson101, I'm a student at Sophie Davis. I might not have this totally correct, but as far as I know:

You must get C or higher in all CCNY classes. If you fail one, you must repeat the course and pass it the second time.

You must get B or higher in all Sophie classes. ("B"=pass, "A"=honors)

If you fail 1 or 2 Sophie courses in a year, you must take a "remediation" exam if you didn't do too poorly. If you did very poorly or if you fail the remediation exam, you must repeat the course ("prescription year"--you usually can't continue with your class b/c everything is taught in a yearly sequence) or leave the program. If you fail the course again, you're removed from the program.

If you fail more than 2 courses, you are put on prescription year with no option of remediation.

You are allowed one prescription year. If you fail another course after taking a prescription year, you're removed from the program.

You are allowed to remediate a total of 8 courses, I think. This is a new policy...

Guarantee of admission to med school is void for students who have taken a prescription year, but it shouldn't be a prob if you do well for the remainder of your time at Sophie (and of course maintain a pleasant personality).

===

I think the policy is very generous... in the traditional route, you don't get any second chances like these.

Thanx a lot for the info sar!

anyone know how the math placement stuff works, cuz i just took the test. it doesn't say anything about math in the sophie curriculum. do they give credit for calc ap and what do u have to get on the exam?

You're welcome, MzJackson101. :-)

5 on calcAB = place out of calculus 1.
5 on calc BC = place out of calculus 1 and 2.
(highest calculus = 3, involving more theory and computers. I don't know what the place-out policy is for AP scores lower than 5.)

math is not really a requirement for sophie--the credit is awarded by CCNY.

The math placement exam--I think you just have to pass it at a certain level (dunno which) and if you don't you have to take a math course. But please don't take my word for this. Call the school to find out for sure.

hey guys...im new at this college discussion stuff...well--i was da only one from my school to get an interview wit sophie--i had it wit Mr. Erves adn Dr. Edalseck...but i got rejected lol...so i was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what i can do--if anything--to try to help out the situation...i tried emailing Mr. Wanyonyi but obviously he never responded..should i call cuz i kno someone that got accepted but isnt goin!...any help>?

is it for all fields of medicine?
does it need mcat scores?
how many years
do you have to be a instater

pot of gold: did u get rejected or waitlisted? cuz i was designated as an "alteranate." I called mr.erves 2day and he said that approximately 35-40 kids are waitlisted...and here's the bad part: in the past two years they have never needed to take kids from the waitlist, which is bad news for you and me

soooo even though one person is not going to sophie davis, doesn't help which totally sucks!!! :-(

thanks lotus for da info..i actually didnt even kno theres a waitlist lol...well congrats on makin it that far! lol...what school did u decide to go to? i'm debating between nyit's BS/DO program or nyu...cuz i cant move out...and u kno wat--sophie's missing out witout us lol...thanks again!
