Sophie Davis Pgm.

my average is 97... i dont know how to turn it into an "out of 4 gpa"
I did a lot of community service like cleaning parks... organizing fund raisers in the school and creating fun activities for students to participate in like a teachers vs. students trivia challenge...

hey im going to sophie davis next year and i was wondering whether any of you were at the reception today or are on facebook. thanks

hey yea i was there...i had fun..met a few people
anyway im on facebook too..monica from w.t. clarke high school

are any of you planning on attending the summer classes? or dorming in the towers?

Oh hay guys. Looks like I'll be going. Also to the summer classes. And dorming in the towers. I'm adding you to facebook, monica.

Everyone join "Sophie Davis Class of '12"

are you guys going for all 4 weeks cuz i talked to a 3rd year student and she told me that she went for only a week and a half and that people just go to meet other people and its not like your gonna have an edge by going all four weeks so I'll probably just go for a week and a half and im still unsure whether to dorm or get an apartment

Your grades this summer will not officially count for anything, so why not go learn something with no pressure. :)

But I also think the summer program was mostly a time for fun & meeting your new class & some of the faculty, & settling into the new school environment... you do get a slight edge in chemistry, I think... pay attention so you can breeze thru the first few weeks of chem. (or use this time to identify your weak points for later focus)

They sometimes change the summer courses a bit, so you might want to ask some younger students about their more recent experiences in the summer prematriculation program.

Hi! I know that getting into sophie davis is VERY competitive (and being Indian I really don't know how great of a chance I have) but I'm also very interested in going to CUNY Honors if I don't get in to Sophie Davis.

On the website it says that when you apply, you apply to the city college and specify you want to be looked at for Sophie Davis, but I was wondering if one could get into CUNY Honors even if one get's rejected from Sophie Davis or do you get denied from both.

actually yea you can apply to both.

If you want to go to SD, you will have to send that application regardless. Then it becomes a matter of whether you choose to send the CUNY Honors application or the regular CUNY application.

Hehe, Indian eh? lol

Hey guys i'll be goin to Sophie to and i'm thinkin about towers but it looks expensive so i'm tryin find an apartment too. Also does anyone know what we have to put for the Notary pubilc in the Agreement form. thanks.

hi there..

im a junior in ny now plannig to apply to SD. when are interviews usually held?
also, in which areas do you guys who got accepted come from? i dont live in NYC but i live very close by.

thanks for any help.

Has anyone that was accepted a member of the Queens Bridge to Medicine Program? I was recently accepted to the Queens Bridge to Medicine Program... and for those of you that don't know, its a program which offers non-credit college prep classes upon the completion of which, you can get an interview with Sophie Davis.
I was wondering if anyone has any advice on whether I should attend.

I believe that that Queens Bridge to Medicine helps you get an interview at Sophie Davis. If Sophie Davis is a top choice for you, obviously attend the program.

hi class of 2012! congrats on getting in, im in the class of 2011, if u guys have any questions about anything feel free to ask. i also went to the summer program, i thought it was a great opportunity to meet people!

I am a new member and I apologize for intruding into your discussion but I really need a bit of information on medical school. As a high school student, I plan on taking a lot of APs (because the other classes are boring) but I heard that I will still have to take them again in college. Therefore, I want to ask if I get 5s on my science APs(bio, chem, physic B or physics C), can I still repeat the class in college to strenghen my GPA?

i think u can still take them again as long as u don't send in ur scores. in order to get credit for a class u have to send in the ap scores from collegeboard to ur specific school. also, if ur interested in a science major then the ap courses pertaining to science won't be credited usually. the schools want u to take them again because u will be using that material later on and high school ap courses are sometimes not enough. for example, for sophie, neither chemistry or biology are credited. only physics and psychology are. so in that case u will have to take those courses again no matter what. i suppose it really depends on the requirements of the school ur interested in.

At Sophie, my AP bio was credited toward BIO 101, which isn't a required course anyway. But I guess it could be helpful if you plan to minor in biology, or something.

Chemistry is absolutely not given credit cuz there's a great chem prof here who wants you to learn everything. :D

Ky-anh Tran, won't you get bored if you repeat the classes in college?

Hi guys,

Congrats to all who applied and were accepted. YOu must all feel very accomplished. I have always wanted to practice primary care and not stuff like surgery, so I hope to apply to SD this fall.

For those accepted, i have a question. If you have a 4.1 gpa and an SAT score of 2070 but 300+ hours of volunteer experience in just the hospital [both local and in another 3rd world country] and 6 leadership positions in clubs/organizations, what do you think my chances are?

Also i have taken AP US, AP spanish lang, AP physics b, AP bio, AP stats, adn IB English YR 1 have taken more than 1 year of science research and i have employment through tutoring and AmeriCorps.

Please let me know. Sophie Davis is the most convenient for me. Also, how should I prepare for their interview questions? I heard SD isn't really asking questions on ethical issues as much as Union/RPI, is this true?

Thank you so much.

Which would be recommended, taking the ACT in September or taking it when it is offered in December by SD? Does the admissions committee prefer one.. or is it easier to send one over the other?

hi guys im a new member, and i am interested in going to queens bridge, but im not too crazy about the fact that you miss your senior year. Is there anyone who went to queens bridge, who can tell me about their experience.

Hey,
I was accepted to queens bridge for my senior year (2007-2008) and opted not to do it b/c I would (1) miss my senior year (2) only take 4 classes at my hs (3) would not be guaranteed admission to SD. I have a friend who did queens bridge and got an interview with SD but still had to go to a state school. Personally, I dont think its really worth it. Although SD is an amazing program... queens bridge is not the helpful in getting into it. In the end, your stats/ interview will determine if you get in.
Good Luck
