Sophie Davis Pgm.

ACT scores are in. I took it September 15, and had very little prep. Anyway, I got a 31 composite. The sections I fared worst on were the two I could not finish due to time. I did not properly pace myself for them... I am retaking the test October 27, and do plan to prepare more, but if I score similarly, is a 31 sufficient enough to get in, or at least an interview?

Hi makshim, I'm a fifth year. Glad you could join us. ^_^

I have no clue about chances anymore... sorry, everyone else. lol

How is the work load at sophie davis???

Ah, then I probably do not know you unless you are one of those people who is always around, you know who they are lol.

First year work load is pretty manageable so far. I hear it really sucks fourth and fifth year. Keep in mind though working your butt off the traditional way will probably be just as much if not more work.

Yeah my mom said the same thing ... sophie does not require the Mcats right??

makshim, sometimes i hang out with the prez in his office. not in the last week though. and i try to check my mailbox every day. and sometimes i peck at the piano. lol I don't know many first years. I met a few once with my friend EK (she was a prematriculation tutor this year), but I've managed to forget their names...

ShadysGurl718,
that's right, no mcats at sophie. the workload is manageable, especially now with the block system... but you do have to keep on top of everything all the time; you'll need non-stop motivation to do well here (but like you've heard from others, it's the same if not more intense on the traditional route). Since a lot of the the med courses are 1 to 2 months each, we have exams every 1 to 3 weeks. So there's not much chance for slacking off. We also tend to have shorter breaks than other college students.

i still think sophie is a great choice, if you're certain that you'd like to be an allopathic doctor. :)

if you're from my school you probably know me heh, sd is my 1st choice, just wondering how i rank with other current/past applicants who got in or didnt.

my hs is in westbury, i live in levittown, i am desi, i enjoy fondu

homecoming king 2 years in a row if that means anything? should i even include that or does that make me look like a jerk?

thanks in advance for any comments or advice, i'll be posting = ]
and when should i have the APP out by? is end of october too early?

ok i just want to know if sd looks or requires sat 2 .b/c i m not thinking of taking it b/c i have other work loads to manage like being arista pres and other volunteering work.and i have a q does it matter if u do ok on the satand u have a great gpa and other activities are really great.

also i have a q.if i don't make it into sd ,can you major in nurseing and still apply to a med school by taking the mcats.

supersam, are homecoming kings usually jerks? i have no idea about that sort of thing. i doubt an early application submission would be frowned upon. :) I think you have a decent shot of being accepted at sd. Make sure you make it clear that sd is your first choice.

vani8, your question about the admissions requirement is best answered directly by an admissions officer from Sophie Davis. Remember that we're just random students around here... and there's no formula for predicting your success, so there is no clear answer to your question about sats vs. gpa&activities. Ask yourself... just how great are you? shrugs I don't know.

I don't think there's a college major for nursing. You can attend a college that offers a nursing degree, and register to take the MCAT, but I don't know enough about nursing programs to tell you any more than that.

i'm not gna lie Sar, you keep this thread alive. you are probably the sole reason anybody knows anything about sophie davis on this forum.

Thanks, supersam. Oh, I'm sure some people have other resources too, but I'm happy to have the opportunity to raise public awareness (well, College Confidential-awareness) about my school. :)

Since I'm still getting PMs, I need to mention this again:
Sometimes I disappear from the forums for a while, and my PM inbox is still full (i'm not that popular; i'm just not ready to empty it yet lol), so check my Profile for my e-mail address.

i have a question about sophie:
i know they say they prefer primary care physician but is it true that they only accept PCPs? my friend said that if u say u r going to be a PCP, & then change ur mind, u have to pay 75,000 dollars..is that true?

thanks!

" WHAT YOU AGREE TO DO:
When you decide to attend SD, you sign a legal contract that gives you two choices of what to do after graduation and licensing: serve two years as a primary care physician in an area of physician-shortage (it's actually usually an overcrowded urban area), or pay $75,000 to the city. It's a good bargain either way; you get oodles of experience in the physician shortage areas, and you would pay something around $75,000 for the first two years of med school anyway. At SD, you pay only the CUNY tuition for those two years."

hey..i just posted this on a new post, but heres the question again: for teacher recs, do i have to send it w/the app or can the teacher send it separately?
thanks

Yayyy Sophie!

Could someone tell me my chances for SD?

Stats
GPA: 94
SAT: 1850 CR: 710 Math: 520 Writing: 620
ACT: 29
ECs: volunteer @ local hospital (100+ hours), camp counselor for the last 5 years, Varsity cheerleading for 3 years, Little League assistant coach, babysitting after school (idk if it rly counts as work experience so I figured I might as well list it here)

ACT and SAT scores too low.

avg ACT of last year's matriculated students was 27
don't fret

and average SAT was 1270.
You don't have to be a genius to get into Sophie, you just have to be committed.
