Sophie Davis Pgm.

Hey tryp..what kind of questions did they ask u?...also, wht negative things did the interviewers tell u abt the school?

There were three (a student, a faculty member, and an administrator), and each was around 45 minutes, I think - in two of them, we finished with time left over and they asked if I had any questions. The questions were pretty general - describe your neighborhood, how do you study, describe your best friend, some questions about various jobs I've held and extracurriculars I've been involved in, why medicine. They asked about the service committment and what I thought about it and whether sophie was my first choice and why. Things like that. Pretty general, not too stressful.
It wasn't so much negative as...the vibe I got from the students was pretty bleh. They were all talking about how bad the food is and how bad the housing situation is and they just didn't seem that enthusiastic about the school in general, which sets off huge warning bells in a situation where the point is to plug the school to prospective students.

Still, the interviewers were really friendly to me, which I liked, and we actually had some really enjoyable conversations - I felt like they were actually interested in me and in what I had to say, which was a really nice feeling. So I'm still pretty sold on Sophie.

oooo ok..thtz nice..though, i hope the housing thing is not true...

i went to the open house at sophie and after it i got to go visit the dorms. They were kind of far away from the school and weren't finished. The walls and floors in the hallways were concrete. I don't remember the yearly cost, but i remember that they were expensive. I mean i was kind of disappointed to see the dorms, but it still a great school.

one of my friends has an interview..and she sent in her application way after i did..
should i be worried??

i haven't gotten one either, i've been worrying since ppl started getting them.

when did u guys send in ur app? (i sent mine in the friday before the deadline)

i sent mine a week or two b4 the deadline, but i just found out i was missing a rec

lol the students aren't prepped to plug the school or anything. we just go up there and chat with the new people when we don't have classes. it's certainly not paradise here. we're deep into the spring semester; they were probably being brutally honest about their situation. consider it carefully along with everything else u have learned about this school.

the Towers (dorms) are indeed not good. a chunk of my class commutes (up to 2 hours each way). a lot of people rent apartments or live with nearby relatives/friends.

tryp, if u see red flags, u should investigate them further until u'r satisfied that the school is still a good fit for you. u don't want to be stuck with 5 years of misery... (just for the record, i was not and am not miserable lol)

correction: "blunt" might be a better word than "brutal" lol
again, if the things u turn out to be disappointed about are important to you, don't let it go until u'r totally sure u'll be ok with what ur next 5 yrs may be all about. :)

i got an e-mail that said they didn't have my transcript, SAT or ACT scores. i had to fax a copy of each.

Heh, I have my interview tomorrow (weather permitting). Wish me luck guys.

Btw tryp, did they question you a lot about the essays you wrote?

ariz123, there was a snowstorm during my interview (in 2003) too. If you plan to take the train, make sure you wear shoes with good traction. gluck!

i sent in my app a week before christmas vacation

Thanks again for the advice sar.

i'm very concerned about these problemz. on the one hand, sophie's med school, so it's bound to be stressful. on the other, i want a cool college life experience too, and if students here aren't happy, maybe sophie ain't for me.

but can the skool really be that bad?

well, you are sort of starting med school early. and med school generally means sacrifice.

no school is perfect, so you should really weigh the pros & cons for each one before you make your final decision.

a cool college life... i don't know how valuable that is, in the long run.

that is very true, going to a cheap school for then next 7 years, no mcats, your choice of 6 med schools, there's bound to be some disadvantages. But the long-term benefits greatly outweigh the short-term problems.

I just got my interview. 2/28.

hey makshim, can u post ur stats up?
