Especially the latter, all you need is money...I definitely won't be wasting over $8000 for anything, since I'm not financially able to. I don't think I ever will spend money on prep books either.
[/quote]
The library has prep books. :)

Anyway, my family doesn't have the $9,075 either. However, I'm hoping I can get a job, and that my grandparents will chip in. Also, a Yale Summer School student told me to mail businesses asking them to support you... that's how she paid for it. I was kind of surprised this girl took something like "Legal writing and rhetoric." But, I think for Multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations it is worth it if I can find a way to pay for it.

"Oh and what are all you sophomores planning on taking next year?"

Forgot to post

Pre-ap english II
Pre-ap chemistry
AP world history
pre-ap geometry (lol im behind in math )
German II
Health Science Technology I
BCIS ( computer class )
PE classes or JV golf

Pre-ap = honors class

Ap/honors gives you +1.00 for each class so the max gpa is 5.0

I'm gonna be a sophomore next year too. But OMG, im like looking at everyone's EC's and I feel like a loser for not doing anything last year! I had like only 3 EC, but my GPA is still 4.0 and next year I will join a lot of other things. As for keeping straight A's this is what I do.

Get to know each teacher's personality and expectations.
(Each teacher has different rules and regulations in their class.
ex. My World History teacher expected so much effort and "umph" into your work. You always had to give 110% because she would mark down for almost everything. But in English, my teacher was pretty laid back. Everything was effort. So you just had to make sure you turned in your assignments and essays.

Turn in your assignments on time.

Always do extra credit.

Study-udy-udy! (Enough Said)

And my schedule for next year:
IBMYP/AP Government
IBMYP P.E. II
IBMYP English 10
IBMYP Spanish III
IBMYP Chemistry
IBMYP Alg. II/Trig
Concert Choir

I'm still debating on whether to do Physics next year and drop choir but w/e...

I'm jealous all of your schools over pre-ap with weighted. It's a wonder my school offers honors in the first place.

Here's my scedual
Honors English
Honors Bio
Honors US History
Honors Algebra II
Latin II
Release-Time Seminary
Symphonic/Marching Band
Advanced Competitive Debate

@aigiqinf
If you don't have so much money to pay for Harvard Summer School why don't try taking those math courses online, like at EPGY. It's a lot cheaper. That's prbly what i'm doing.

My Schedule:
AP Calculus BC
AP Biology
LA II Honors
Honors Physics
American Studies Honors
Spanish 4 Honors
Study Hall(req.)
Gym

Not terribly demanding but will get tougher next year when I take courses at Princeton w/ their severe grade deflation :(

My goals for nest year:
-qualify for USAMO and USABO finals..gonna be a tough year....

Because I don't believe you can take EPGY during the summer, and I wanted to get ahead. I think I've found a school that is decent.

I can do: Multivariable+Linear Algebra in 5 weeks for 2k total (Boarding +dining+ tuition)

I can do: Multivariable+Linear Algebra+Differential Equations+Combinatorics in 10 weeks for 4k (Boarding+dining+tuition)

well, unless you lived in california you couldn't go there but what you could do is do it online which is availabe year-round...it would be something like:

Multivariable + Linear Algebra + Differential Equations + Combinatorics for 3k in 6 months

But then again it depends how motivated you are to keep up with online classes which has a tendency to cause me to procrastinate....or if you even like the experience at all...

my schedule and EC's compared to the rest of you guys are mediocre.
Schedule:
AVID (will switch out to Digital Arts 1/2)
Honors Spanish 5/6 (year III)
Honors Algebra II
Honors Chemistry
Honors English Lit
AP World History
EC's:
Track and Field
Cross Country
Academic League
Key Club

I want to get ahead for the next year and I won't finish AP Calculus BC until June 2009.

If I don't get into NCSSM I have to graduate early so I want to get as much math done as I can

If I do get into NCSSM I want to be ahead, and I'd like a college experience anyway.

They're won't be enough time unless I take those classes before I finish AP Calculus BC.

EPGY? I've heard of that somewhere...I thought it was for some "gifted math people" (god that sounds corny) to enroll in an online school fulltime...maybe I'm mistaken and you are allowed to take just courses there.

3 EC's is actually quite a lot for a freshman, most colleges usually care starting like 10th grade and on, and lots of people I know are successfully starting EC's in 10th/11th grade and did fine.

Also be comforted in knowing that I haven't done a single Ec other than something mediocre of a class called orchestra.

All this isn't necessary for straight A's, unless your school is incredibly difficult...but then maybe it's because freshman year was a total joke.

aginqinf, are you planning to graduate a year early to go to college with the rising juniors or something btw?

The 3 EC I did were not that much though. Just Chorus, Key Club, and Homecoming Committee. IDK, compared to like everyone else it seems like nothing but that's okay.

EPGY is for gifted people. But you are talking about their high school diploma program... which would be like if you leave high school without earning a high school diploma to go to Harvard, MIT, Duke... etc. and you want to earn your high school diploma because you otherwise wouldn't have one.

I'm hoping to go to HYPM, Duke or University of Chicago... at all of which I'd be a freshman.

However, if I don't get into at any of these, or with enough FA... I would be happy to go to UNC-CH as a Sophomore/Junior but that's my back-up plan.
