Hey guys!
I am new to College Confidential, but have looked and observed a lot of forums. I have a few questions of my own:
I am going to be a high school sophomore next year, and wanted to take a few AP exams to hopefully start obtaining some credit as well as knowledge for college. I am most likely taking the AP World History exam next year, but that is the only AP class my school offers for sophomores.
I was considering self studying for AP Stats, AP US Gov, and possibly AP Comp Gov.
For stats, would a solid foundation in Algebra 2 be enough to self-study, or should I learn Pre-Cal with it?
For AP US Gov and Comp Gov, I want to major in Pre-Law, so I want to get a foundation ready for college, while my high school schedule isn’t crazy yet.
What does everyone think? Does anyone have experience?
AP Stat is definitely doable if you have already taken Algebra II. You do not need Pre-Calculus. The advanced students in my school take AP Stat before Pre-Calculus. Many on-level seniors at my school also take AP Stat instead of Pre-Calculus senior year and do fine. I cannot give you any advice on the other classes, but AP Stat is considered one of the easier AP classes and wouldn’t be too difficult to study for on your own.
Gov is a a lot of information, so I would take it in a class room setting. However, I just finished stats with all As, no problem. If you are dedicated it is very doable. If you do self study, I would do serval things: 1.) Talk to the stats teacher at your school and get help and 2.) buy an Ap book and take many practices. The thing wth Stats is that it is all knowing certain conditions for performing certain tests, when to use what, ect.
Thanks for the feedback about Stats! I’ll probably self study that.
Would it make self studying government easier if I was interested in the topic? I love learning about laws and investigating into how our government (and especially politics these days) work. If I only took US gov, would that be better than taking both? AP Stats and AP US Gov?
