My dream college is UC Irvine and I'm very concerned because my grades for sophomore year don't look so great. I'm doing better this year (junior), so my weighted GPA for this year so far is a 4.2

But last year...

English- A/A
Spanish 2- B/B
AP Biology- C/C (I don't like to blame any of my grades on someone else, but for bio...I swear...the teacher x_x If she didn't like your work, she would just give you a big fat 0)
AP European History- B/A
Advanced Algebra- B/C
Mock Trial- na/A (we get it counted as a grade for our 2nd semester)

My SAT scores are ok: 2000

I don't have a long list of EC's, but I've been very involved in mock trial throughout my high school career and I'm a founding member of JSA at my school. And I have some of the generic stuff: Asian Club, Key Club.

I've been volunteering at the local history musuem all of high school.

Do I stand a chance at UC Irvine (I'm in-state btw)?

=*(

you stand a chance as long as you can show an improvement of your grades throughout this year and next year. And if you can, you might want to try to get into the top four percent of your senior class (GPA/Rank) because the UCs offer the ELC program. They guarantee admission to the top four percent of seniors at your school, to one UC schools (usually the less competitive schools). I was guaranteed admission to Irvine, but I didn't even apply.

First of all, CALM DOWN!!! Forget about last year, forget about YESTERDAY... Did you try your hardest last year? Can you change the past? I think that you should show improvement, apply early, and hope for the best. Worry about the SAT, because if you mess that up, then you will have more to worry about. Pretty much, if you do well on the SAT to make up for last yr, and do well this year, you should be fine...

Is a 2000 good enough? My mom's trying to make me get a 2200..even I don't know how she's going to "make me".

2000 is more than enough at UCI. The middle 50% of admitted students is around/between 1650 and 1960, so even w/ your GPA you're fine!

UCI: Safe Match
