Sophomore or Junior transfer

I saw a few comments below, and found something peculiar.
If I have completed 1 semester of college... you will apply as a sop transfer
If I have completed 3 semester of college... you will apply as a junior transfer

How dose that work?
SO... only Spring and Fall are included in semester?? What about Summer?
Some students stay over 2 years in college to transfer, and I bet they are going to get more than 60 credits... way more than 60 credits... but why are they still staying in college?

I am a newbie in transfer... help me

They are probably waiting until they get into the college of their choice.

For fall transfer admissions, usually applications are due sometime in the late winter/early spring, eg. often around March 1. Because of this, colleges will see at most a mid-term report for spring semester.

So, if you apply for a soph transfer, you will only have completed fall of fr year when your application is evaluated. As a jr transfer, colleges will see your full fr year and fall of your soph year when they make a decision.

Of course if you take any summer courses within those time frames, they will be considered as well.

I believe there are some schools that accept sr transfers.

What do you mean by fall?
Most students start to attend univ. in Fall -

So… Fall-Spring-Summer (Whole 1 year) or just Fall-Spring (Whole 1 year)
I started to attend university spring 2012… and wish to apply for transfer for spring 2013
What am I considered as?

Fall is considered the beginning of the school year, most students transfer in the fall. Some schools don’t accept spring transfers.

In general, a year of college is considered 2 sems. or 3 qts. Summer is different because most people don’t take as may courses in the summer as they do the rest of the year.

If you have a year of college completed at the time you matriculate, you are a soph.

Last Question.
So… I have completed 2 semesters (Spring and Summer)… but my transcript shows I am still a freshmen. Am I still a freshmen?

2) If I have completed 2 semesters, am I already eligible to transfer to other universities?

P.S. I have started to attend university spring 2012

Thank you… so much.

Like I said, usually students only take a couple of courses during the summer vs. 4-5 during the regular year. How many did you take, how many units do you have now?

Also, remember that if you are applying as a soph transfer, you will have approx. 30 sem/45 qt units when you matriculate, not when you apply. You attended college last spring and this summer, are you going to attend this fall as well? If so, you’d likely be considered a soph transfer if you took full or close to full loads spring and summer.

The big question is, how many total units will you have completed by the time you plan to transfer in spring 2013? If it’s about the number I gave above, you should be good.

But be sure the schools you’re applying to accept spring transfers, not all do.
