How about D-plan? thats optional right?

Nope, you are required to be “on” your entire freshman year, your entire senior year and sophomore summer. The D plan kicks in as early as summer freshman year.

At the beginning of sophomore year, you have the following options; be on campus and attend class, go on a study abroad, stay home, do an internship, work, do an exchange at another school.

Sophomore summer is a very big part of the Dartmouth experience. It is when the whole class is on campus together estentially just by themselves. It gives them the opportunity to bond as a class, and for the most part the students have an amazing time.

It’s a good thing. I t means that when you’re “off,” the competition for jobs and internships is considerably less.

How about international students? Are they required to spend the sophomore summer at school?

Yes, they are required to spend sophomore summer at school.

International students actually often can’t take classes sophomore summer, but, as it is the best term at Dartmouth, usually chose to use one of their off terms living in hanover over sophomore summer. Pretty sure the original post was a joke, though.
