Sophomore Transfer to AEM Chances?

Hi there,

I'm a freshman right now at a similarly ranked school, Notre Dame, and I'm not too comfortable with the religious environment here and would like to transfer to Cornell AEM for next year and was wondering what my odds look like. My prospective concentration is entrepreneurship.

I applied RD and was rejected if it matters.

Here are my high school/misc stats:

White male from upstate NY

SAT: 2270 superscore- 800 CR; 760 M; 710W

GPA: 3.96 unweighted

Courseload: AP US (5), AP World (5), AP Lit (4), AP Stat (5), AP Euro Hist (5, self-studied)

AP Calc BC (3), AB subscore (4)

Also received the IB Diploma and took 6 IB courses. My exam grades for IB sucked so I won't even include them on the app

High School EC's (I'll just list the top 2):

Run my own eBay business, Power Seller and Top rated seller. My Cornell supplement was about how I started this and how Cornell's entrepreneurship major would help me achieve my dream of running my own company one day, I might fit this in as a topic for my transfer app.

Masterminds (Trivia competition)- won state championship one year, was team captain

College so far

Took both Macroeconomics and Microeconomics at a local public university over the summer and received A's in both.

Taking:

Philosophy- predicted A-/B+
Calc 1 (did not get credit with a 4 in AB)- predicted A
Theology- predicted B
Psychology- predicted A
Astronomy- predicted A

Predicted GPA- 3.6 to 3.8

Not sure what I'm taking next semester but I will try to do public speaking as recommended on the AEM site.

College EC's:

Quiz Bowl
Polish Club
I might join some entrepreneurship club to look good on the app.

Thanks for reading and let me know what my odds are and what I could do to improve them!

Anyone???

Nobody???

AEM is extremely selective for transfer students. If I were to suggest things to do to improve your chances based on level of pertinence: 1)Raise your GPA (it should be nearly flawless), 2) Join EC’s that reflect your interest in Business. I’m sure Notre Dame, through it’s own business school, has several organizations that you can devote some time to. 3) Start searching for internships. It’s never too early, and they look great on transfer applications. 3-4) Develop close relations with two professors so that they can write you solid letters of recommendation.

Remember that Notre Dame also has a fine business school. Thus, your essays must be very compelling in your reasoning for transfer.

I am also applying to transfer (albeit a different major) for this Spring, so take my advice with a grain of salt. I have also heard that completing all prerequisites and suggested courses helps your chances tremendously for AEM acceptance. Good luck!

you have a decent chance at transferring. agree with tungtied, would try to shoot for a higher GPA or closer to the 3.8 than 3.6. also show strong interest in business through your coursework… your first semester kind of looks random. definitely show LEADERSHIP potential by starting to join organizations. the essays are important – make sure you outline why you might be a good for for dyson.

Great stats! What do you plan to major in within AEM ?

AEM is the major. AEM has specializations.
