Hi, I was wondering what sororites are like at UCONN. Do the haze new members? Are they close knit? Do some sororities have bad reputations around campus? Are members nice?

Sororities are VERY close. In fact, they are somewhat separated from the rest of the UConn community, both physically and socially. Some sororities have poor reputations (I couldn’t tell you specifics, mostly because I don’t know them) in that the members go through a “rigorous” and sometimes humiliating initiation. And while hazing is strictly prohibited on campus, that does not mean that pledges are not “properly” initiated. In addition, I know that some sororities haze members after they have filed for graduation, instead of when they are pledging, to get around the hazing rules.

This is for sororities and fraternities fyi. But please don’t think that this is true for all greek organizations. There are many that are very good and philanthropic, and host a good social community without the stereotypical greek experience. As for whether members are nice: that depends on the individual. There isn’t really a way to answer that question universally.
