Sorority Help PLEASE.

Hi, I am thinking about attending UT-Austin next fall and have been debating on whether to join a sorority or not. I'm an African American and when I look on all the sorority websites the NPHC ones just don't look like they would be right for me and I know i cant just judge the sororities from the websites but I just don't feel that I would fit in or enjoy myself there. But when I look at all the University Panhellenic Council I love them because I feel like we have the same interest. My problem is, would I fit in since most of the UPC's look like they're all white? Would they even consider accepting me? would I be the odd one out? Like I don't want to just join a NPHC sorority just because I'm black but I don't want to not join a UPC sorority because I may stick out. I'm not a racist by any means I'm just stuck. I want to get the most out of my college experience next fall and I don't want to live with regrets.

Yes, most UPC chapters are white, which stems from the roots of the original organizations. Yes, there are some African American girls in UPC chapters…and some of those chapters are strong houses that are not afraid to go against “tradition”. If a UPC accepts you into their chapter the chances of you being odd man out because of the color of your skin is slim.

Agree!!! You should certainly go for a UPC chapter…especially at UT! They will not judge you based on the color of your skin!
Have a fun recruitment!

I am black as well, not african american but african. I was born in Cote d’Ivoire( Africa) but have been raised in FRance. I will be transfering to UT next fall and I will be a Sophomore. I also plan to rush. I don’t think that being black will be a problem just do it and forget your skin color cause I don’t think that it would bother anyone.
