Sorority life at USC vs. UC

SDSU is a party school for dumb people.
UCSD is a good school.
USC is in the ghetto

USC is in the ghetto? I thought LA was nice.

LA is nice; but USC is located in south ghetto part of LA and is surrounded by ghetto neigborhoods, as opposed to UCLA which is near Bel Air and Beverly Hills.

Not all areas of LA are of equal niceness. Whatever that means.

“You know you’re on USC’s campus when the windows aren’t broken.”

There are definitely even less nice areas of Los Angeles though.

I always thought USC was located in a really nice area. That’s disappointing to hear.

Is Cal in a nice area?

Cal is in a very unique area, it has a lot of unique culture that you wouldn’t find anywhere else.

I like the city of Berkeley but some parts are really sketchy. My dad got robbed twice at gunpoint when he was a grad student there.

USC > UCSD for sorority life.
UCSD > USC for science and engineering (USC is better for business and similar fields).
SDSU shouldn’t even be in the equation.

USC social sorority/frat life beats UCSD, and arguably any of its peer schools(with UCSB being the exception). SDSU is not a peer of USC.

The immediate area around USC is working class. It’s not the best but its not the worst. People who have never lived in the area, or who automatically assume a position based on their relative “better” lifestyle or neighborhood can’t really opine other wise. If USC’s neighborhood was so dangerous, top students with daddy or mommy’s money wouldn’t pay full price tag just to attend the school.

Living in the USC area or nearby involves common sense, and this is required in any CITY, not just USC’s area.

If you as a student NEED a pretty neighborhood with an active social life your best bet is UCSB.

Also you will get better responses and opinions of USC’s neighborhood/social life on the USC forums.

My kids both attend USC. Both live near campus and have not complained of problems any different from any other large city. It’s proximity to downtown LA provides a lof of great advantages for jobs, internships and cultural opportunities. Like any large city, you need to be aware of your surroundings.

Ya, I’ve heard USC isn’t in the best LA area. But like, come on, you don’t get shot when walking off campus! It’s still a top choice school for many students.

Any of you know anything about University of Central Florida btw? It’s my second choice I think.

I have a friend who goes to USC and she said someone got shot in the parking lot of the Ralphs grocery store on Vermont Ave where all the students go shopping.

Stuff happens occasionally.

Of course that was almost 20 years ago.

I feel like USC isnt very well known outside of the U.S, and the only reason it is known in the U.S is because of football and maybe business.

UCSD, very strong academically especially science, engineering, and even poli sci / econ. there are plenty of parties…its a college and there is a greek scene but there is no greek row. frat houses are kind of scattered across the area… there are also people who dont party, you just gotta make the right friends. also, the area around UCSD is really nice

SDSU, REALLY big party scene, mediocre academics, cheaper. also good for business

I heard there are hotter people at USC.
