Is a 34 on ACT really that awful? Apparently my mom thinks so because now, she doesn't think I'll get into any ivy league whatsoever.

She said to me that I ened to repair the damage by at least getting a 2380. She's worried that I have a 3.91 GPA out of 4.0 this year when I had four high level classes!

Can someone help?!?!?

No, a 34 is great. Tell your mom your score is in the 99th percentile (check the ACT website, it's true.) A 34 is great for any school you're looking at.

omg, people would kill for that score

Try and realize that some people will never be satisfied with what you achieve like my very own father and that you simply do not need their approval. There really are other things in life than pleasing someone else. I am currently in a situation in my life where I am faced with the reality that life can be over tomorrow. This has made me lighten up on my college plans and I found other things I enjoy outside from college research and studying.

32 is in the top 1%. Past that point, the admissions look past your ACT score on onto other parts of you resume.

a 34 is probably in the top .5% or better.

If you can get in with a 36, you can probably get in with a 34. The difference won't hurt you at all.

Ya no big... Look on any ivy leage admission page. The middle 50% is between 33 and 35... your dead center. And your GPA is pretty kick ass too. Youll git in anywhere. I would do SPORTS TOO. And be sure to throw some COMMUNITY SERVICE. these are things that colleges (especially ivy league) kill for.

Actually, after a quick google, the middle 50% at Yale is 30-34. That means you have a better ACT score than 75% of the people who go to Yale. Tell that to your mom!

A 34 was the highest ACT score in the history of my high school.

My s got a 34 also, and we are very thrilled. From looking at the statistics on the act website it appears that less than 6300 test takers received this score last year. This is in the top .5% of the test takers. There are less who score a 34 on the ACT than there are National Merit Finalists-- if that helps.

If your mom still isn't impressed, well then please know that there is a momma in Ohio that IS impressed with your score! Good luck.

Maybe he scored a perfect 36 (not missing anything) on 10 consecutive practice tests. Then, I would be disappointed.

haha thanks everyone

no, a 34 isn't that great for the ivies. Your mom is right. Maybe try community college or a local state school.

ivy student here with a 34

ACT is not everything in Admission

You might as well kiss your future goodbye with a score like that. You probably won't ever amount to anything in your life and be subject to serve others until you are incapable of work

What's with the Ivy stigma? There are other schools. Don't just pick a school because it's an Ivy. Go there if you actually like it.

Anyway, a 32 or higher is fair game for the Ivies. Sometimes, even a lower score is fair game as long as you can make up for it somewhere else on your application.

I haven't found out my score, but I'd like a 34, but will be happy with a 32, preferrably a 33.

ok.. and you had to make this same thread three times with a different topic? how insecure are you?

Some people would kill for a 34...including me. It almost makes me a little angry/jealous when people are like "I got a 34/35, is that good?" Obviously, it is.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to **** anyone off.

I wrote this thread because my mom wouldn't stop screaming about how I did so badly. I also think 34 is a good score. But, my mom's actions just put that into doubt.

Sorry once again.

Tell your mom not to be a conformist yuppie. A 34 will not hold you back anywhere. Be happy :)
