i cant get a fee waiver, is it really worth the 50 bucks to retake the ACT if i got a 34 first try?. my target school is upenn wharton if that matters.

In my opinion, I think a 34 is good enough for any Ivy League school. Go to collegeboard.com and Harvard’ middle fifty percent has an Act score of 31-35.

i’m retaking a 34. i got a 33 the first time. maybe its my perfectionism

its a lously one point
why retake?

maybe JLauberth wants to go to Harvard or something.lol.

i’m also considering re-taking, although i think my score is good enough!
but then, theres always room for improvement too…

Wow, this thread really shows that the ACT does not test intelligence. Apparently, the people who get really high scores are not smart enough to realize that their scores are good enough. I know you will say “theres always room for improvement too…” but please get some common sense. A 32+ is in the 99 percentile, so why would you retake it? It is absolutely appalling that you would actually take the time to debate this frivolous subject of a couple points. Consider yourselves blessed to have those scores, because there are a prodigious amount of intelligent people who would love to have your scores. The difference between a 34 and a 36 is next to nothing anyway; I still am in shock that you would actually consider retaking a 34(unless you needed a writing score because you did not take that the first time).

THANK YOU doctor92,

Some people are just perfectionists. =P

If it were me I wouldn’t, but it’s his money so I really don’t care. I would be very satisfied with a 32+

What Doctor92 said… and no offense to the perfectionists…but one reason why students with “perfect” scores do not always get offered admission to these schools is what that relentless pursuit of a 36 or 2400 might inadvertently suggest. Perfection is not always perceived as golden. Sometimes it’s witnessed as small focused myopia…Some might suggest ( I know Oh Horrors---- but I do actually have some AdCom experience) that a person in the 99th percentile might now be better served improving their personality, relationship to family and community.

A 34 is definitely good enough for the Ivies. Don’t think that getting a perfect score will boost your chances for admittance. If you have solid ECs and a strong GPA, a point or two less on the ACT isn’t going to matter very much.
