sorry, but I'm an ACT newb xD

Hey…I’m usually on the SAT side of this forum, but some of my friends suggested that I take the ACT too…and after today’s disaster, I’m considering it strongly.

Prep resources?
I am already aware of the “red book” from the makers of the ACT for test prep. Are there any other good resources? I can’t seem to find as much as I could find on the SAT.

Scoring?
Also, what are these numbers out of 144? I always thought you got a score out of 36… I always see it in those Presidential Scholar cut-offs…does anyone else (i.e. colleges, other scholarship programs, etc.) use these 144 numbers? And what are 140, 141, 142, etc. supposed to mean?

Curves?
I took the practice today…and I got one science question wrong…which brought me down to a 34…is science always that harsh?! I feel like it’s the sat math curve of the ACT…

Thanks for educating an ACT n00b…none of my friends are taking it compared to the SAT, so I’m pretty clueless.

There aren’t that many good resources for the ACT.
I hated Princeton Review, but that might be worth looking at.
Barron’s is good if you want super insanely hard practice. It prepares you well though.

I’m assuming that the 144 is just adding the scores from each section together because 36*4 is 144. But a normal score is an average of all your sections together…and that’s out of 36.

The curves depend on how difficult the section is. Sometimes if the section is really easy, the curve won’t be very lenient and missing one will be a 34. Sometimes the curve is very lenient, like missing three could still be a 36.

I personally like the ACT better because to me it’s a lot easier.
The only bad thing is the pressure of not having enough time on the ACT.
