Sorry for the inconvenience, but...

...but I just had to post this chances thread. ;)

I'm a junior right now at a very competitive public school. So far I'm thinking about applying next year as an environmental studies major.

Btw I'll be applying OOS.

[Summer activities]
2003 - travel in Europe and Asia
2004 - skipped 2 courses
2005 - skipped 1 course, worked as a tutor
2006 - NJ Scholars Program, Environmental Management course through Harvard SSP, JSA symposium on leadership and politics, maybe getting a job and/or a course or two at the local CC if possible

I've explored the fields of biology and public policy throughout high school, and they overlap nicely in the field of environmental studies, which I plan to major in in college.

What do you guys think of my chances? Thanks in advance for any comments. :)

oh come, must we answer that??
you could probably get into HARVARD!!

Very good chance. What do you expect us to say? You're smart, so I'm assuming you're capable of looking up relevant admissions data and coming to your own conclusions.

btw, everyone goes to a "very competitive public high school."

why are you posting in all the school's threads? Quit asking for compliments, you know you're smart! Geez. I did see you post the same thing in the UNC Chapel Hill thread.

what's the skipping two courses thing that you did in the summer?

I think you have a good chance.

i'd say you're a strong "maybe", just improve the EC's and get the test scores up a little

just kidding. drop out of highschool now and go conquer the world.

yeawhoayea - well, they seem to love my school, so I may have to settle for that :</p>

cavalier302 - perhaps, but how many of them are ranked #1 in their state? And we get a ton of kids into really competitive schools every year. I'm sure many CC'ers go to competitive schools, but I'm not asking for my chances in comparison to other CC'ers - rather, the entire applicant pool.

Ladyjournalistt - I just want to be absolutely sure of my matches because I'm only applying to 1 real safety right now (and a couple theoretical safeties). I'm strongly considering both UVA and UNC, but they're both marginal, so I want to see what people think of my chances first before making my final decision. Of course, this thread won't play a huge role in that decision, but it can't hurt.

sciencenerd - I took courses elsewhere, took the equivalent final exams at my school, and was therefore able to skip certain prereqs/accelerate my sequence. I skipped chem H to take physics I, precalc to take AB, and intro to comp to take AP comp sci.

bwilks - lol.

actually many world conquerers have possessed relatively little "bookish" intelligence...

i love how as soon as someone posts something like that people are like you jerk, you're just a showoff, etc. i get it. ;)

almost without fail, people put competitive high school too. I believe that means a large amount of nothingness to most admissions officers, i think it really only serves to boost the feeling of achievement for a poster. however, it does seem to become cliche after a while

and to the poster, you're chances are beautiful, good job
