SOS - Expenses

China boy, math, 5y co op.

1, Admitted with FA of 19k/y (Mar 19), appealed for a 25k/y (Apr 9), increased to 22k/y (Apr 21), now keep on appealing... Note: This 25k is the minimum that secures my visa so I got to go appealing on and on... Now, chances?

2, Apr 21 yesterday was my 21st birthday. So as I requested, the ISSS permitted me to live off campus and now I'm hunting for a $400/m bedroom within 5 miles radius. Could anyone there inspect the houses for me in May or June? Many thanks.

3, No pets, no smoking, not into alcohol. Self cooking. Sometimes may go to OH to visit my girl, she's not spending, nice kid~ So how much should I reserve for a year's non-school spendings? Philadelphia...

Come Zack - appreciated.

p.s. I really don’t think a student will spend 20,000 USD on non-school things a year - even it’s philadelphia

a $400/month bedroom is possible, just you’d have to look hard enough and get something that’s a very good deal, possibly with roomates. No pets, no smoknig, no alcohol, self cooking are all fine. What do you mean by “inspect the houses for you?”
How much should you reserve for a year’s non-school spendings? If you’re living off-campus, you can probably get by on less than $9,000 for everything ($1000 a month).

yea thank you zack
inspect the houses means to see how fine the house is on behalf of me since i cant arrive prior to maybe august. i’ll do it myself if i should arrive in june or july but - where should i stay from then on thru september? in case the university accomodates such early arrivers or you could recommend me some other choices, i’ll try go early - anyhow the int’l airfare is hugely reduced if one goes early.

maybe try and start out living at the international house a few blocks from drexel:
[Serving US and International Students & Scholars of Greater Philadelphia’s Colleges and Universities, International House](http://www.ihousephilly.org/index.html)
you may also wanna check out here: [Drexel University Off Campus Housing](http://www.drexel.edu/offcampushousing/)
drexel has a lot of people in similar situations, eg a roomate. They’ll start an “accepted students message board” soon for all of you so you can ask around. You can also ask around on this very message board.
drexel will make an effort to help you out and are very understanding, contacting someone at admissions and asking who to speak to might be a good way also

actually i just feel a bit disappointed - girls are usually granted 10 k more of FA over boys at WPI so i turn to drexel, only to find i’m still behind female applicants in money matters … i just wonder why engineering schools are so lusty for girls, financially!

speaking of scholarships, am i eligible to surmount them in the following years, if i had a better gpa or something? i’m ■■■■■■■■■■ because i’m good at math…

… kidding. will my FA increase and increase if i show talent in my subsequent years? i still dont believe i’m just worth 22k of FA, no.
