I'm looking for the best college(s) for majoring in sound design ***for video games! The college must have internships at a video game software company, or be geared towards/ include students that want to pursue this career. I have a list of about 25 colleges right now that look good and have the basic major I want, but before I start narrowing it down, I want to make sure that I am aware of the best colleges for recording arts, as far as the video game industry is concerned. Thanks!

Here is a link to the thread when you asked the same question on Feb 25, and the 3 pages of answers… can you re-prhase the question? What info are you looking for that was not answered there?

^Agreed – Cebula, I think we’ve already mentioned every major music-based program. As I recall, you don’t currently have any experience composing or producing electronic music or a portfolio, and you were going to look into taking rudiments in a summer program at a local college. Many of those programs are extremely competitive – you may need to find a mentor to evaluate your skill level in order to suggest best fits.

At this point, why not call Sony, which runs unpaid internships each summer in the SF/Bay area, and ask them to define what they look for and where they hire from.

I know they posted a position last fall for a paid summer internship for a music composer for their game division – the credentials they asked for were pretty much a precise match to the course my son has taken at the UMich program I told you about.

The part that I’m afraid you’re overlooking a bit is the actual composition and ear – it is quite unbelievable how radically someone will develop in 4 years. My son was “good” at writing and recording songs all through highschool, but what he’s learned in a mere 2 years is comparatively quantum leaps forward. You need the cross-hybrid foundations of theory, composition, solfege, performance and technology to pull all the pieces together. I honestly don’t think it matters exactly WHERE you get is so much as HOW you blend it.

Okay thanks! Sorry I was just looking for more input from the video game aspect and am currently developing the ear training/music/comp skills right now. I’m not really expecting any more answers, but thank you!
