South Hall vs Bush Hall

I put down in my lottery proxy forms (neither I or my roommate could it to the housing lottery, so we had to get ResLife to proxy for us) that we would like to room in "South or Bush." I later realized that I shouldn't have put down Bush because I found out a lot of my friends are living in South. What do you guys think of the two dorms?

I still have to wait to hear from ResLife about what they chose...

I think they've both got ups and downs. They're not far from each other, so you can still see your friends plenty.
Just be glad that your housing lottery situation wasn't as bad as mine... I don't even know who my roommate will be; they ran out of singles half an hour before my time to pick.

Leprostaist:

South is great for a number of reasons such as:

Near Dewick-better food than Carmichael.
Great bathroom set-up with lots of "singles" as opposed to "common."
Closest to Davis Square.
Co-ed and mixed classes, i. e. not just freshmen.
Newer construction-1991 or so??
Close to bookstore, Campus Center, Arts buildings, stadium, etc.

A few cons:

Upper floor rooms are warm-all year 'round!!
If many of your classes are uphill, walk can get tiring after a while!

I don't know anything about Bush. Sorry.

I think it's great for students to get the chance to live both "uphill" and "downhill" as there are advantages/disadvantages to both. My D is downhill this year, but is uphill next. She's excited because it will be a change of pace/scenery, almost like living on a "new " campus!

ok, I was just assigned to South. Do you know if the rooms right next to the bathrooms are larger?

Since you're already at Tufts, I would suggest visiting one of your friends living in South. Being there will give you a better feel of the dorm (room size, etc.) that an reply in a message board will.

Dan history fact: I was an RA in south my senior year. The building, and my residents, were awesome.

HUZZAH!

I think being a newer building all doubles in South are the same size.

FLOOR PLAN!

http://ase.tufts.edu/reslife/housing/floorPlans/South.pdf

As you can see, most rooms are the same size, a few are differently sized.

South rooms tend to be narrow and shaped like shoe boxes, which is one thing I wasn't a fan of. It's really nice though.

I'm happy I ended up in a Wren suite...seeing as I'm in Haskell now, I couldn't really picture myself not in a suite!

Yeah, I was hoping to be in a Wren suite but we somehow wound up with 11 people... I'm pretty happy with the room I'm getting in Lewis as a bunch of my other friends are living right around the corner.
As long as you're with some (or even one) of your friends it really won't be that bad.

"As long as you're with some (or even one) of your friends it really won't be that bad. "

Very true.

leprostaist, you have nothing to worry about. Living in South (one of the nicer dorms, IMO) with your friends will be great!

On the other hand, kjcastillo1990, watch out for the Wren bugs! :)

Dan, sorry off topic, but I commented to my alumnus during the interview about you on CollegeConfidential (positive things of course!). I was wondering if the message was ever relayed to you?

Just curious! :)

Haha primeminister, my future suitemates and I are going to stalk up on Raid, since we're gonna be in the 0-zone!
