Southern belles?

We have just returned from visiting Clemson. We live in a suburb of Baltimore. Clemson was at the top of my junior dd's list until we visited. She claims that all of the girls that she saw were of the "southern belle" type and that she would not fit into that mold. She currently goes to a relatively prestigious private girls school and so is used to the girls that have plenty of money, clothing, nice cars, etc. I am assuming then that it was not just that the girls seemed to be dressed and accessorizied well, but some other factor that I was unable to discern that is concerning her. I am wondering if anyone else has heard or felt the same sentiment. I am quite disconcerted as I honestly could not find anything about Clemson that I did not like and I was hoping that she felt the same. Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.

From Baltimore as well and also go to a private school (boys though). When I visited, I also noticed that many of the girls look like that. However, I didn’t really think many of them were of the “dumb blonde southern” sterotype so to speak. Obviously girls in the south tend to have similar physical appearances but I didn’t think it was too serious. Nothing that would deter me personally. Yes, I’m somewhat concerned about a “redneck” population but I think there will certainly be plenty of groups to join. MD itself has a large amount of students at Clemson.

I noticed that to an extent, but I’ve never seen them to be the majority. One thing I want to point out is that certain styles tend to stand out more than others. For example, a girl in a bright dress (belle) will be more noticeable than someone wearing jeans and a tee shirt. Also, greek students are disproportionately represented on campus. They are required to have a certain amount of people living on campus, and therefore a majority of the upperclassmen living on campus are greek.
