Southern cali

Who’s coming from southern california ?

i'm not.....

I am coming from Monterey Park. Dreading the 6 hour drive

I'm coming from orange county

if i do get in next year (hopefully) ill be coming from OC. 9hr drive...or couple hour plane ride... ;)

Speaking of kids from SoCal...are most of you driving up there for move-in day with all your stuff? My dad and i made the drive there to visit Davis at the beginning of April, it was pretty hellish

Also, what's the cheapest/easiest way to get up there for orientation? I'm thinking train or plane, right?

P.S. are your parents going with you to the parent's part orientation? I haven't told mine about the parents portion yet, dunno if i should? lol

I think plane's the best way, Southwest has an online special that's like $99 round trip, $120 after tax and fees.

kmass as a parent I can tell you that it was a really great experience for the parents at orientation. I really never saw my d as parents have their own sessions away from their students. It is very helpful for parents as we learn about the process for paying your tuition, how to set up your medical appointments, class registration etc. It will save you from answering a thousand questions later and allow your parents to support you in an appropriate way.

Pack 3 large cheapo Army/Navy surplus duffels with clothing ...fly with parents to Sacramento the day before move in...rent a car at the airport...go to target in Sacramento for all the bedding, towels etc...stay one night in a hotel...move in next day...take care of odds and ends...Kiss your parents goodbye...parents return car at the airport and fly home late that afternoon. Parents UPS any leftovers that are important once they are home.
No one is miserable.
With the cost of gas it all comes out even.

I'm from SD. Even farther away.

I'm driving up there since I just have way too much stuff to even think about taking on a plane. Not looking forward to it at all.
