Ok..so I'm thinking of a school....here is what I'm looking for

Small-Medium School (Above 4,000, below maybe 12-15,000)
In the south
political science major
co-ed, four year
well-known, good reputation
lacrosse team
public/private no concern
money no concern (dad's vanderbilt tuition benefit)
non military/performing arts/etc
white/christian/etc don't care about religiously affiliated

I have an ok--good GPA and test scores (32 ACT) and really good ec's and recs/essays, but the one thing holding me down is def. my GPA so i'm looking for a school maybe more competitive and smaller than auburn (my safety) but a little easier to get into than vanderbilt or wake forest (my reaches)...basically what are my matches??? also if you have a school that fits criteria but not in the south thats fine...also looking at Chapman University in Orange, CA..just not sure if i want to leave the south or not...thanks

-alex

ps- sorry for the typos .... did this in a rush while listening to music

rollins, tulane, samford, wofford, college of charleston, elon, sweetbriar, just to name a few and there's a LAC in Jackson, MS but I can't remember it's name.

I had never known Lacrosse had left the North until I got to Vanderbilt after 13 years in Alabama. What I'm saying is that you're probably not get many people who even know what lacrosse is at Awbarn (full disclosure: Bama fan ;-D). Besides Auburn, you're only bet in Alabama would be Birmingham-Southern, which is a good small school, but too small for your criteria. Samford is bigger than BSC, and while it's a good school, it's not as good as BSC.

In TN, you should look at Rhodes and Swanee(sp?). And honestly, I think you have a good chance at Vandy if you apply ED. I'm only assuming your dad's tuition credit at Vandy means he's affiliated with it somehow. Is he an alumnus? That would probably seal the deal for you.

The LAC mentioned in Jackson, MS is Millsaps College which I was going to suggest as well. I also second looking into Birmingham Southern College and Samford University which are both in Birmingham. Some one also mentioned Rhodes College in Memphis which would also be a good one to look into. Lacrosse will be a hard find in the south, so I can't really speak to if any of those have that requirement.

My dad is a professor at Vanderbilt, and that is how I get the tuition benefit. Vanderbilt is my first choice, I'm just not sure how much I'll enjoy being 25 minutes away from home...

JT, about lacrosse, how long has that been a thing in Tennessee. Like I said above, I had never known that lacrosse was played outside the Northeast before I went to Vanderbilt. The locals were very gungho about it.

Furman is slighty smaller than you are asking for but it fits everything else to a T . Really sounds like you. And I don't know a thing about LAX , though. Sorry.

You could apply to Rice as a reach. LAX is a club sport there, I believe. (Edit) Wait.. I don't understand - you said "white, christian..." Do you want it to be white and christian? Rice is pretty diverse, so wouldn't fit that.

JT I'm from Nashville too, and I'm applying to ChapU. Crazy. Sadly, I'm not looking at schools in the south, so I'm not of much help, but I did hear Sewanee is good or something.

I dont know what i meant by white/christian but what I was saying is I don't care about religious affiliation. I'll look into Furman and Davidson....and to the Chapman applier...have you visited it? where in nashville? how'd you find out about it??

JTS33, I have thought more about it and I'm really going to toot Furman's horn for you. It is the most beautiful campus we have seen. Not the setting or the buildings as much as the grounds. Just visually stunning. Lake and swans and manicured lawns and flowers. Good looking kids. Highly ranked LAC well into the top fifty. Fun sports scene, very competitive 1-aa football. Academics are supposed to be first rate and selectivity is a notch down from Davidson and Vandy (as is "name" factor). It may still come back to D's list, you never know.

JT, ummm I haven't visited, but I plan to do my school visitings in the spring over spring break. I actually found out about Chapman through CC. Everything about it seems so right... It's my top choice overall (well, as for film school, USC is my top). And I live in the Antioch area (blehhhh). I go to McGavock though.

If it's Lacrosse in Dixie, I say take a look at Washington & Lee University. Be mindful that it is a high quality college but culturally is is highly conservative. Mostly southern aristocratic or wannabe aristocrats and a dominant Greek fraternity scene. In any event, the caliber of the students is high.
