Souvenir Tshirts issue

Stopped by on the way to visit friend during holiday and bought Tshirt at the store on Spring st. for rather low price of $16, after few wash and air dry, screen printed letters (W and A respectably) are started to crack and peel off.
Have this used UCLA shirts bought at local thrift shop for $ 2 because the bear mascot was cute and after countless wash and air dry, it is going strong, so is 6year old elementary school graduation shirts given away for free (this one machine dried many times for printed area is smaller and less dense)
Now, why is that one of the nation’s best college’s shirts’ printing quality is so poor?
What is general range of college Tshirts price and its printing lifespan?
Is this anything to do with Williams’ art dept. not offering silkscreen??
Are students at Williams having access to better quality shirts somewhere else in the campus out of tourists’ reach?
I saw a guy in the subway with track team shirts obviously worn many years for he is a proud alum with no fading letters; yes, I went up to him and asked.
