So it's me again. The guy who would like to take Spanish 4 next year. So after looking at other colleges after my guidance counselor encouraged me to take a "Spanish 3" course over the summer and take Spanish 4 next year, I found some possible community colleges. According to some, the first, elementary Spanish course offered at community colleges is equivalent to the first two years of high school Spanish. That means that the next level, which, in the case of this one particular community college, the intermediate Spanish course (or at least, a semester of it) is equivalent to a Spanish 3 course, right? This assumption was opposed a month ago, but I don't know if the picture was completely clear, especially after reading a post I've read on this forum.

Anybody care to shed some light? Especially, can someone decipher this? This is from the course catalog, describing the intermediate Spanish class I'm interested in:

"Prerequisite: SPAN 1B. Acceptable for credit: CSU, UC (CAN SPAN 8) (SPAN 2A+SPAN 2B: CAN SPAN Seq B"

SPAN 1B is, I think, the second semester of Elementary Spanish. I'm kind of hoping SPAN 1B is equivalent to a high school Spanish 2 course.

I would appreciate some prompt responses, as I'm kind of running out of time. This one popular community college I had planned to go to this summer is practically fully booked... So it's scary.

Um, you might want to look at the syllabus of the college course and see if your state has a standard course of study.
I'm interested in this too... I need 3 years of High School Spanish to take the exemption exam at my state's magnet school. I'm not sure whether I need two or 3 courses at my Community College in Spanish.

In my state:
Community College
Elementary Spanish I
Elementary Spanish II
Intermediate Spanish I
Intermediate Spanish II

I'm under the assumption that Intermediate Spanish I=Spanish III but I'm not sure... because Isn't an AP class like the 5th year of a language?

Okay, so according to the head of the foreign language department (or at least, a related department), I should take Spanish 1B. I guess my previous assumption was wrong. :P I only hope I can enroll in time.

^
So what's it equal to?

Turns out Spanish 1B is the class I'm looking for. Equivalent to Spanish 3. And according to my GC, the Spanish 4 teachers confirmed that Spanish 1B is what I want.

It's titled "Elementary Spanish." Is that misleading to you?

I assume that Spanish IA is the first course they offer, right?

I'm trying to figure out if I take Elementary Spanish I and II next year, if I would have had the equivalent of Honors Spanish III at the High School level. I'll have to find someone to ask.

I assume that Spanish 1A is equivalent to Spanish 1 and 2. The education systems of the community colleges that we're looking at may be different, so this may not be applicable to the college you're planning on attending this summer.

Just what level(s) of Spanish do you plan to cover over the summer, again?
