What types of things are on the placement exam? Is some of it verbal? Vocab? How difficult is it?

It’s a little bit of everything Biggest advice I can give is to actually review the stuff beforehand. I didn’t do this and took it on a whim in the middle of July, and placed below where I think I should have, and had to take an extra class. I was so frustrated I took a year off, and ended up needed the extra class anyway, but yeah.

all ive read and heard said to take the test cold turkey to get the most accurate results. i did this and placed into beginner spanish when ive taken the equivalent of 5 yrs of high school spanish. =\ the thing is, its not hard at all. i was shocked by my result bc i thought it wasnt too bad but apparently i forgot the finer details over the summer. luckily my spanish ap was high so i used it to get out of the requirement. my advisor said to ignore the placement score and start with spanish 202 - advanced spanish. so i guess id study to avoid getting placed in a super easy review class. there was some subjunctive stuff on there, vocab, grammar, passages. overall not bad at all. similar to or easier than a high school upper level spanish test.
