Right now I'm a junior in my 3rd year of Spanish. I want to take the Spanish subject test next October because I really like languages and want to be able to show colleges that, but I've heard that the spanish test is really hard. Even though I've always had an A in spanish, I'm afraid my mediochre Spanish teachers haven't really prepared me very well. I'm definitely going to buy a test prep book and look at it over the summer, and I'll be taking AP next fall, but I was thinking if I want to get over a 700 I should maybe take a Spanish course over the summer at my local community college. I'm also planning to take Italian next summer which is the language I'm really interested in. What I was wondering is if taking an extra intermediate Spanish class for 2 months over the summer would actually help me at all on the test, or simply seem useless and repetitive. Has anyone tried this? Would it be better to just buy a couple books geared toward the test and study them a little everyday? Has anyone gotten over a 700 without being a native speaker? Thanks!

anyone????

just expose yourself to the language. you say you don't think your teachers have prepped you all that well, but it's really on you. first identify if you have any recurring grammatical problems. if you're good with the grammar, then you need to expand your vocabulary. watch films, read, talk to spanish-speaking people, etc.

besides that, take some practice tests.

i don't actually have experience with spanish, but with german. i took german outside of school for 15 months before taking the german sat 2 with listening. I did get a 750 on it, though

I used SAT Subject Test: German (REA) -- The Best Test Prep for the SAT and the big blue book for SAT subject tests

I found the REA book was considerably easier than the blue book (which was a bit harder than the real test), but it had a lot of practice tests, and i was expanding my vocab from taking them, which was primarily what I was after

some links:

the REA book for spanish - http://www.amazon.com/SAT-Subject-Test-Spanish-Preps/dp/0738602523/ref=sr_1_1/105-3378322-2348469?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1172931232&sr=1-1

kaplan book for spanish (the REA book was my only choice for german, i'd much rather have used a book that more appropriately mimics the test, kaplan is a bigger name for test prep) - http://www.amazon.com/Kaplan-SAT-Subject-Test-2007-2008/dp/141955106X/ref=sr_1_7/105-3378322-2348469?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1172931232&sr=1-7

then you'll want to take the official blue book and take the practice tests in there for spanish after finishing with REA/kaplan/etc. - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0874477565/105-3378322-2348469

thanks for the help. i'm good with grammar, but just need to expand my vocabulary. i got into the habit of watching this show on the spanish channel everyday and then i stopped for some reason, but maybe i should start back up again and find out if santiago and merlina ever got together, lol.

thanks again. i'll definitely go through those books this summer.

there are no AP tests in the fall..just to let you know.

what about october?

oh, wait never mind. i meant sat. i never said AP test did i? i meant that i was taking AP spanish class in the fall, not the test. i'm talking about subject tests in october.
