Special Appointment Process...

Hello,

I am hoping to become one of the lucky few that gets the chance to attend the Naval Academy. I am in my Junior year of high school, and I am trying understand how I would go about my appointment process. My father is a Lt. Col in the Marine Corps, so I find myself living overseas in Darmstadt, Germany. Does any one know who I would contact for a Congressional Appointment, and would my living overseas help my chances of Appointment and later on Admittance? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do know that you can go for a Presidential nomination (for children of active or retired military) and that there are 100 appointments for that.

Also, make sure you apply to the VP. My BGO told me that the VP nominations were often reserved for people who don't really have a Congressional district or state in which they reside.

Does this mean that I have lost the option of a Congressional Appointment, and if this is true, will this hurt my chances?

I see no reason why you couldn't apply for a nom from the district and state in which your parent(s) has established legal residence for voting, tax and other purposes. You might be somewhat disadvantaged by not being able to do an in-person interview, but might be able to work something out, such as a phone interview.

Yeah, it doesn't seem fair for you to be punished because your parents are serving in the military currently. If anything, that should only help you.
