<p>Hi! I was wondering what my chances are of getting into Brown or Stanford.
Stats:
2200 SAT
4.33 GPA WTD, 3.95 UWT
Almost all honors/AP classes
5's on 3 ap exams
SAT II scores are 780+
Class president multiple years
Presidents Club
School Ambassador
Future Doctors Club
Honors Societies
More clubs
Some tennis
Summer Job 2012
Traveled to El Salvador last summer to volunteer for 2 weeks
More volunteer work at a hospital
Started my own business
Research internship with a medical doctor
Also, my mother killed herself my sophomore year. Would this be considered a hook in my application? I was thinking it might because my circumstances will show perserverance
I'm worried that the 3 B's I received will ruin my chances.. did I blow it with those B's? All were in AP classes

<p>B’s aren’t dealbreakers with Stanford, they don’t help certainly but stanford seems to be a little more forgiving with the GPA. Your SAT is a tad low, but as long as it’s evenly distributed (no low 600s in any one area) its fine. the SAT II’s help. Your EC’s arent anything really special, bit they are decent. I’m sorry to hear about your mother, that isn’t a hook persay but should absolutely be mentioned somewhere in your application. Don’t use it as an excuse, but you could write a good essay about dealing with that loss. Make sure your rec’s (if you’re close enough to them) mention your mother’s passing, and that you didn’t use it as an excuse. Don’t worry about the b’s your GPA is fine for stanford’s averages. <p>It’s really amazing that you were able to do so well in school after what happened with your mother, you’re really courageous for going through all that. Your stats are all really good (SATs a bit low but everything else makes up for it) so I definitely think you have a fighting chance at those top, competitive schools!</p>
