Special circumstances consideration?

TLDR; didn’t mention extenuating mental health circumstances in application, any way to change this?

Hey everyone,

So my college career has been rocky, to say the least. I attended TCNJ straight out of high school (where I graduated with about a 3.7), did extremely well my first semester (3.7 GPA) and then completely failed every course I took in the spring due to severe clinically-diagnosed depression. I came back in the fall after seeing a therapist and did only slightly better but had to withdraw from a course. I left TCNJ at this point to work full time, but by the time I left, my GPA was at a disturbing 1.9 and I was put on academic probation.

Fast forward a bit, I’ve been working full time and taking community college classes part time. My mental health is ~finally~ under control, I have a 3.4 GPA, etc.

I just applied as a transfer to Rutgers NB but I am so worried about my TCNJ GPA. It brings my cumulative GPA down to like a 2.7, which is just so SO low. I realized that I didn’t talk about my mental health issues at TCNJ ANYWHERE in my application or essay, which was remiss of me.

I guess my question is, is there any way meeting with an Admissions counselor could help me add to the “special circumstances” section of my (already submitted) application? Or is it too little too late and I’ll just have to hope for the best?

(sorry this was so long I’m just really disappointed in myself for not including this in my application)

Maybe you could request an interview? A person-to-person interview might be a good way to tackle this. Also - I am on this site just waiting to hear if I have been accepted to TCNJ as a freshman. I applied early decision so I’ll know in about a week, anyway. Good luck to you!
