I used to be an illegal immigrant...for 7 1/2 years that is. I'm finally of legal status and I'm applying for transfer to a 4 year University. I'm wondering if my previous lack of status is worth mentioning, or if it is just going to hurt my chances of getting in.

Also, I have a Conditional Green Card, valid for 2 years, after which I'll apply for removal of conditions (the US government will give me an extension of 1 year after the 2 years expire) at that 1 year point will I be considered an international student?

Do not worry about your previous undocumented status. I am actually an undocumented immigrant attending the University of Pennsylvania with financial aid. Because of my undocumented status, the door to obtaining financial aid put me in the same position as international students. I can tell you that being undocumented or having been undocumented is not going to bring you down. In fact, a lot of schools like it when you mention it in your application. But, you have to let them know that previously being undocumented has empowered you! Your green card will open the doors for so many colleges/universities because you can receive federal financial aid. PM if you need any more information. Do not worry - you are not alone.
