I just got a card from UChicago telling me about the several "Summer Information Days" they are having. I was going to go visit UChicago this summer anyway. Is it better to go on one of these days specifically set aside for undergrad wooing or to go another time and see the school when the admissions staff isn't as "prepared"? Does anyone have experience with such days, either at UChicago or another school, where it was more impersonal or rushed than regular visits? Am I just being paranoid?

It depends on the format of the program. At some schools, if you're planning on visiting during the summer anyway, it's worth doing the special visit days if they offer access to things like mock classes, meetings with faculty, and other special insights that you may not get during a regular summer visit. But all "visit days" are not created equally, so ask how the U of C program is set up before you reschedule to attend one of these days to see if it will offer any enhanced information that you wouldn't get otherwise. I'd also ask how many prospies typically attend.

However, if you're visiting during the school year, I myself prefer to see the school in action on a typical school day, rather than through a formatted "visit day" program. The best of both worlds, of course, is to do both. :)
