summer information days/visiting chicago in general

has anyone ever gone to these before, how are they. what recommendatiosn about visiting in general do you have.

are u allowed to sit in summer session classes?

If you can visit while classes are in session (late September - end of May), try very hard to make it happen.

DO IT! I just got back from an open house and it was AMAZING! Its worth it just to see the campus!

If you live close enough that you can visit again when students are there and have the chance to spend the night, visit classes, etc., then go to the Open House. If you have just one shot at a visit, I'd skip the Open House and opt for the more personal visit when school is in session. The Open House was interesting, but we were surrounded by other prospective students and their parents...not by U of C students. It was very difficult to get a real sense of what it would be like to go there.

Or do the multi-day thing and go and spend a day wandering around, visit a class, talk to students ect. and then go to the open house the next day. That way, even if you have to travel, you get the best of both worlds. Thats what I did!

i live in new jersey, so i might or might not be able to visit chicago again. i like davnasca's idea of going their two days.

Unfortunately, you simply won't be able to get the same experience during the summer. The main tour guides are home or working for the summer, students are gone, classes aren't in session, etc. Try to go during a 3 day weekend from school, or even take a Monday off to come up in the fall.
