Well, now that the EA decision dust has settled, I thought I'd post some info about special interest housing.

Since I got in last year but took a year off, I've been spending a lot of time this year looking at housing options and other resources. I applied and got into a program called Justice in Action. Its basically a program where students meet ocassionally and try to combat social issues like homelessness, racism, illiteracy, etc. I thought it would be fun and interesting. Also, it'll be great for my medicals school apps and the program is housed in a brand new dorm (Southwest Quad, built 2003). The dorm also has wireless internet access!!

So, if anyone is interested in this or any other special interest housing programs, you should check them out. Post your questions, comments or suggestions here.

I was thinking that if we get a few people interested or accepted to SIH programs, we'd be able to choose roommates right here on CC (because regular freshmen housing get to use CHARMS, a program where they can choose roommates by living preferences online whereas SIH participants do not.

Anyways, the site for special interest housing at Georgetown is at: http://www.georgetown.edu/student-affairs/reslife/sih.html

Good luck to all the deferees for next spring!!

Are freshmen allowed to live in special interest housing?

Yes, freshmen can live in almost any of the special interest housing programs, except Global Living Community!

Freshmen can't do global living? BUMMER! That was the one I was interested in.

Oh well, my second choice is the Culture and Performance one- sounds WAY cool...when do we apply for these things?

If I send my deposit in now, will I get my housing packet and all this info?

I think that if you send in a deposit, you still won't get your info package until after the common reply date (May 1). But to apply for the Culture and Performance online at http://www.georgetown.edu/faculty/ap85/cpllc/ and click on application for 2005-2006. You can apply now and they should let you know in a few weeks. I agree, it does sound fun!

it says it's due January 28! So do all of the other freshmen just get shafted?

No, basically they will have a second round of admissions after the whole freshmen class will be assembled (after May 1st) but you can still apply now so that you know sooner. That's what I did. I applied for Justice in Action in November and got accepted a few weeks later. But freshmen will still be able to apply in June.

OK, cool..I still have to mull over which exactly I want- a lot of them sound really interesting- Living Well sounds good, as does the American Culture and Politics and the Culture and Performances one, too.

Why aren't freshmen allowed in the Global one? because it's high demand or what?

I'm not really sure why... I wrote them an email because I was interested, but they said only uperclassmen can apply, but that I should keept them in mind for next year.

I was also interested in American Culture, but the dorm its housed in is really far from the main campus buildings (i.e. you'll have to walk really far to all your classes).

I wanted to do the Global Living Community, but I guess I can't for next year. oh well, my very close second choice was Culture and Performances, so hopefully I can get into that one.

Hmmm. I don't know how far I'm going to want to walk in the snow and cold...I looked at the temperatures there now, and there high is my low!!!!

It was 78 here today, and it was like 55 there...
