Does everyone on their mailing list get one of these invitations?

And, due to distance we will most likely be able to visit wustl one time only. Any opinion on whether it would be better to go one one of these organized dates or just on our own sometime over the summer?

And, one more question. My child may be URM and it seemed I had read something about a paid for diversity fly in, which I think may be in the fall. This would be a much busier time for us than summer, but would it be better to wait to see if that pans out first before driving/flying ourselves there? By better I mean more advantageous to admissions/merit aid, I'm not that worried about cost, more about the timing. Thanks!

i don’t know much about the summer visits; if you can show interest some other way (skype interview, etc), i would wait until spring. if your child is admitted, he/she will likely be invited to multicultural weekend (as you mentioned URM) and/or one of the school-specific programs like olin spotlight or art/architecture visit days, which are paid for by washu.

We went to the engineering day last summer. It was our first visit, so at the time had nothing to compare it to. It was very interesting - started out with a campus/dorm tour then met for a general information session. After that, the non-engineering students were dismissed and they began an engineering information session.

They covered a lot of information, but what I learned later after other visits to other schools is that we missed out on a lot of information that we have gotten at individual visits. We did not get a tour of the engineering department, nor did we get to visit one-on-one with a professor and/or student. There was a “social” type event at the end of the info session where we could have visited, but decided to walk around the buildings instead.

WashU is a great school & still on DS’ list. The campus is beautiful, the buildings are beautiful - engineering buildings are new. There is a nice large park with zoo and museum just across the street. And there is a restaurant/entertainment district within walking distance.

Very nice!

Beady mom, thanks for your informative replies to my posts! If you can’t tell I am completely freaking out over this process:) sounds like our sons are looking at lots of the same places, it will be interesting to see where they end up after this long journey!
