Hi all, I’ve been on this website for a while but have never posted before. I’m looking to pursue a degree in engineering (mechanical perhaps, but not sure yet) and I’m wondering if there are any specific classes to take in my senior year of High School. I am a junior in mostly advanced class right now. This year I’m taking three AP classes which are; Lang & Comp, US history, and statistics. My other classes are Advanced Pre-Calculus and Physics which I have pretty much all A’s and B’s in. I have a sport in the winter and spring and am on a FRC robotics team at my school along with other extra-curricular activities (bands mostly). Next year I plan to take AP Literature, AP Human Geo, AP Calc (haven’t decided on AB/BC yet), and AP Physics 1 along with a half year of both economics and govt (state mandated), and a full year robotics class. I was wondering if there were any other classes I should take that would put me ahead in college applications or that would prepare me to do well in college. I’ll answer any other questions and feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
For an engineering major, you should definitely take AP Calc BC and AP Physics C (if offered, in place of AP Physics 1). AP Chem is also helpful (perhaps in place of APHG?) but that depends if you can handle the extra workload.
Physics C isn’t offered at my school. (Small public school-graduating class < 200) and I honesty don’t think I can handle AP Chem, AP physics, and BC calc with everything else I have going on. I think that for the more physical subgroups of engineering that AP physics would be more useful than AP Chem if I had to choose one
In that case, I’d stick with AP Calc BC and AP Physics 1.
