Speed Reading for RC

I consider myself to be a slow reader as I always have trouble finishing the RC sections and because I always take longer to read books. I was wondering if anyone could post some things that helped them increase their reading speed and at the same time their comprehension.

I am willing to buy software and books so if you guys could name some good ones, I'd appreciate it. What seems to be the hardest for me is to eliminate subvocalization. People have told me to stop sounding out the word in my head, but it seems impossible!

Again please name speed reading programs and books that have helped you!!

I haven’t tried this myself but [Amazon.com: Breakthrough Rapid Reading (9780735200197): Peter Kump: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Breakthrough-Rapid-Reading-Peter-Kump/dp/073520019X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1249703147&sr=1-1) looks promising.

Actually, although subvocalizing while reading may slow you down, it allows you to better comprehend what’s being read. However, with SAT CR passages, the questions don’t require that you comprehend everything in the passage. That’s why I skip over the passage and answer the questions directly, skimming the passage and finding the parts relevant to the question that I’m on. Although I haven’t field tested this on the SAT, this technique proved to be successful on the AP Eng Lang Exam.

I’ve only tried this once, but it helped.
