Spending money in Boston

Hey guys I'm working out at budgeting plan for my first semester at college and am wondering if 800$ per semester is sufficient enough for a city like Boston. I plan on being heavily busy at school but still want to enjoy going to some parties and the occasional night out with friends ( dinner movie ect). Thoughts and personal feedback welcome!

Whether or not that would be adequate depends a lot upon you as a person - how frequently you want to go out to eat, the movies, shows, concerts (anything that would cost money). Know that practically all clubs are 21+, except on certain nights at certain times (Tuesdays late at night, for example, when business would be slow) or when a particular artist is playing there, in which case they will turn 18+, often with a $20 cover charge.
Also in terms of general expenses, what meal plan are you on? If you have a fairly limited one, be prepared to allocate more money for a food budget.
Boston as a city is relatively expensive (nothing crazy like New York though), but you can definitely find inexpensive places to go out to eat. Also because Boston is such a college town, there are often student discounts offered.

Disclaimer: this information is only coming from personal experience of living in Boston myself (not as a college student) and feedback my siblings (who do go to college there) have shared with me

Speaking as a Mom of a new college student, DD is spending about $150/month mostly on laundry, snacks and an occasional movie. I curse vending machines. I expect this to increase as she gets more comfortable moving around the city. I will say it depends on where you are. There are things to do within walking distance for her. The T can be expensive. That does not include transport home.
