Spending my summer wisely...

All the colleges I'm aiming for are known to be extremely competive and I just want to make the best of my opportunities. The question is, should I try for the six weeks of governor school over the summer (I'm in NC) or dedicate my time towards volunteering? Last summer I volunteered 220 hours with a nonprofit, and was planning on working the same amount next summer (I really loved the people, environment and cause!). I want to volunteer but I also think governor school might be a really cool opportunity. What do you guys think? The deciding factor here IS which one looks better, because both (thus far) seem to have the same amount of pros and cons. I'm looking into applying to schools like Stanford, Princeton, unc, Vanderbilt, Dartmouth, and Columbia. My academics are decent, but I heard last year a girl who went to governor school figured only unc would acknowledge the prestige of it.

Thanks in advance!

the one that looks better is the one you’re more passionate about

In some states the governor’s school allows you to attend a state school very cheaply or for free. Research your state.
