spoken English

I am from Ocean University of China,Qingdao,China and I am preparing for the 2008's GRE and TOEFL,and I want to find a partner to practice spoken English. So anyone who wants can add me on the MSN,niaotiyuluolei@hotamai.com.
thanks.

spoken English = oral conversation... are you looking for written English = writing/reading?

You can use microphones on MSN.

writing and reading is not very conveniet to communicate through internet,i think,so i have not planned to find.but thanks very much.

yeah, but first i have to find a partner.
thanks

in english, there is a space after a comma (,) and two spaces after a period(.)

To Jack:

Not necessarily two spaces after a period. That's old-fashioned, even though it's still being taught. One or two spaces is acceptable.

Hello, I am from China, too. I learned to speak English well in about 2 years because I prioritized reading, listening, and writing over speaking. If you do not have a good intuition or "feel" about English, you will never make much progress in speaking no matter how long you practice everyday.

I agree- that's my approach for my current language of study (Hebrew). It's much better that way.

Try listening to some english music. If you can understand the rappers, you can understand anyone.

(really though, listen to music, its fun, and eventually you'll pick up what they're saying)

recommend a website
Language Exchage website www.italki.com
exchange native language with them, get more learning resources from the site, and practise oral english/ french/japanese/korean.......

Actually, the two spaces after the period isn't being taught anymore (at least where I live). Just ask a younger sibling or someone in elementary or middle school.

Hmm, interesting that they're phasing it out. I still use it because I like having a distinguishable, larger break between sentences, but apparently it's cool to do both.

i put 2 spaces after a period generally...i deleted one space from each sentence to make a character count and it drove me INSANE.

I'm in my last year high school and I've NEVER been taught to put two spaces after a period.

Why are they phasing it out? I do it by habbit, also since it makes it easier to tell between words and complete sentences. I also use the em___(spelling?) '--', which looks like a double hyphen. Very few people seem to use those efficently on forums, but they're well used by certain bloggers and literature freaks.

Heheh, do you remember the old printers with the perforated edge, which seemed to have only one font face? Did you notice how they only told us to double space when we were typing? Funny.

I have always used two spaces after periods since I was little. But I keep hearing more and more people just using one space. I guess it is more of a preference thing and I guess it must save paper over vast amounts of data that is being printed out.

I also did not know about two spaces after a period. Wow, this thread is informative!
