I understand that college admissions is not so black and white, but are sponsored high school athletes more appealing than unsponsored ones? I’m pretty generic when it comes to my grades, courseload, and ECs, (just the same Honors/APs, volunteering, awards, and leadership positions you’ve seen before), but I play tennis for my school and recently a tennis/fitness apparel brand sponsored me. I’d just like to know if this is something I could even include on my college application, and if so, whether it’s notable at all to admissions. I would’ve googled it but the results (as expected) aren’t very relevant.
I guess it could be considered an EC like a job. Usually for most sports the question is are you being recruited or not. If you are sponsored I imagine you might be recruitable?
Doesn’t a sponsorship make you ineligible for NCAA? I know that in theory taking cash prizes at local races makes you ineligible. You may want to look into that if you’re interested in competing in college.
I don’t get cash. I just get apparel.
That doesn’t answer the question of whether it makes you ineligible for the NCAA.
Our club swim team has several swimmers sponsored every year and they get scholarships no problem. However our coaches know all the rules and manage the relationship.
